My saga:
Waffled on these during the first offering
Ended up passing on them
Read the post delivery review from @Solitude007 Lamented my decision to skip these
Ordered them from SideDeal (thanks for the heads up @SaintO)
Got them promptly
Put them in use
Am getting used to them.
My first few times using them I felt like I had a mouthful of bees. Made my tongue feel weird. That sensation has pretty much passed, and I’m liking these. So far they seem to be holding up well and I like the variation in all the settings as well as the two minute timer.
of course, YMMV
I normally would avoid something that’s an obvious third-shift knockoff of a major brand, but based entirely on the stength of @Solitude007’s review (and the fact that Philips has had its own major quality issues in the recent past – ahem CPAP recall), I went ahead and bought one (well, two). At worst I break them down and recycle the bits that are recyclable, and go back to a manual brush. Charging by a plug-in cord instead of those induction docks makes me a little nervous, but it works for my beard trimmer so I guess we’ll USB-C.
@kensey This is probably the only way I’ll spend my Kohl’s StoreSavings. I’m amperage’d up to see if this is more convenient than my $5 Colgate-360 (stronger than a vibrating manual brush, but far from quite sonic strong; I like that it takes AAA’s)
@kensey@pakopako
At this price I think you’ll be happy. I kind of like the convenience of USB-C charging since I usually keep a wall wart plugged in and phone cable on the counter anyway (for my wife’s phone overnight).
Given the fact that there is water involved I would be a bit hesitant to depend on induction charging.
@kensey@pakopako
Not that I can remember noticing in the instruction manual. I’m not sure I kept it either?.!
My plan is to just top it off once every couple months or so. I think it’s supposed to last at least 6 months. I may try to remember to do it quarterly so I don’t actually run out in the middle of brushing one night.
@pakopako
Since I haven’t had mine long enough to have to recharge it I can’t tell you yet. So far I can’t tell any difference from when I first put it in use about a month ago.
Everyone seems to be making toothbrushes like these now, which makes me not trust them. If there’s such a heavy discount, they’re probably not worth it. I’ll stick to my Oral B iO. This brush hasn’t mysteriously disappeared from store shelves and has been working amazingly well.
@GospelX
If you have a working toothbrush that you’re happy with there’s no need to buy a new one.
My experience with things like this is that as a not-early-adopter I can afford to wait until a knockoff/generic version comes out before I jump on the bandwagon (more cheaply). This also work for most of my tech like phones and computers.
I received mine on Wednesday night. Wellllll…one is completely DOA, wasn’t charged, wouldn’t charge, won’t charge. Ded.
The 2nd one had about a half charge out of the box, which helped confirm #1 was dead. It fired up right away. I went ahead and put it on the charger for a couple of hours. I put a sonic brush on the handle (supposed to be a compatible brush, checked prior to purchase) and was comforted to see it fit right on it. Went to do my usual evening brushing, and the brush head lasted, oh, maybe 20 secs before the machine shook it off. It has a weird back and forth mechanism to it vs a tight circle oscillating motion. It took me 4 reassemblies to get my teefs cleaned. Tried a different brush head, same thing. let’s just say these were priced to move. Reaching out to Meh CS for a full return on these things. They should have been recycled rather than sold, IMO.
@frankster14 Did you have any issues with the brush heads that came with it? The sample I got had a charge right out of the box that lasted me weeks until needing to recharge.
@frankster14@troy
Likewise I’ve been happy with mine using the heads that came with it. Haven’t tried any kind of aftermarket heads on it yet, but I haven’t had it that long either.
Oh, and the weird back and forth motion is something you can select to turn off. Check the instruction manual.
OTOH since one of these was DOA all bets are off…
@chienfou@frankster14@troy
You can’t turn the shaking motion off. You can reduce it, but it can’t go away.
(Tap the top button to increase the power; cycle through all 3 modes, or hold the button down, and the brush will power off. The bottom button controls the oscillations of the brush head; you can only tap to cycle through wide/mild/minimum.)

What’s a “HIGHCAPAITY BATTERY”?
Inquiring minds want to know.
@Foobarski I’m not sure, but I doubt it’s as much fun as a Stength button when it’s time to let loose on Saturday night.
But will there be months of self-embarrassment by the manufacturer, unexpected delays in order filling, and a commemorative coin for these?
@werehatrack Maybe. It looks like close Phillips copy so bring popcorn (and a toothbrush if you got the caramel sauce).
@ergomeh And floss picks no matter what, because of those pesky husk shards.
@werehatrack
Just PLEASE, for the love of God, don’t throw them on the ground when you’re done. YUCK!
@ergomeh @werehatrack Coincidentally:

“Bass-brushing technique”? So, this is for fishing?
@werehatrack I think it’s for an upright bass for a jazz band.

@mediocrebot Accurate, yet frightening

Club name is a nice touch…

Oh, and they are $3 (each) cheaper today.
Naturally…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@chienfou How does it compare to a Philips type electric toothbrush, do you know?
@Kyeh
This is my first Sonic style toothbrush so have no point of reference…sorry. FWIW I do like it.
@chienfou Oh! I see. Thanks. I have a Sonicare but don’t love it.

@chienfou @kensey any way to tell how full the battery is?

Hm, looks like there’s no way to tell the charge levels. And it’s not that type of brush to wind down as the charge goes down?
@pakopako
