The new AI slop ones rarely reflect the product being sold, and feel impersonal, compared to the original style, which always related directly to the day’s deal.
While I am whining, the color schemes for the writing on the home page is bad too. The colors don’t have enough contrast to make them easy for me to read. Yes, get off my lawn. I am old.
@speediedelivery I’m confused by what you mean about not enough contrast - the white text on the dark gray background? Or do you mean the orange headings on the dark gray background? Or something else?
@dave The orange on grey. The colors are harder for me. I can see but have to focus to read it or I just look at the pictures and skip the words. I do use the dark theme. I don’t know if that changes anything. I really like the dark better than the light.
The clay-like face features are not amusing or attractive. They look kind of unsettling, in my opinion. And more than a few of the results have looked NSFW.
@chienfou If you go to the previous deals you can see what they were. Just click on the empty circle in the calendar at the bottom of the page showing the most recent deal if you want the lazy way to find them.
Somewhere I have the t-shirt of the first year of click faces. Not sure I can easily put my hands on it to post but it was all the click faces creating a click face.
I think the AI must be hallucinating for the click faces and the last images.
I prefer Human slop over AI slop anyway.
Another vote for the old fashioned click faces.
As far as the last image (I call it the ‘meme’ image, just to have something to name it) - should I switch back to movies from art? I was enjoying seeing the modern stuff put into old contexts, but maybe movie shots are more fun? Any other ideas?
Let me think about the Meh faces - you’re thinking back to the white circle with a face on it, but nudged to something vaguely related to the product would be more fun than the photorealistic things we’re doing now, right?
@dave Yes to getting rid of what we have now. And yes to having someone dream them up and draw them out like, I presume, you did in the past. Maybe hire back part time the person who did the best job of this in the past just to do the daily click face?
Either type of cultural meme is fine by me. Funny, the art “memes” tend to be more familiar to me than the film ones. Guess I need to get out and eat stale popcorn more often.
[Talk about something that smells better than it tastes. Cf. today’s poll.]
All right, no promises everyone will love them but let’s see if this week’s Meh faces are more to your liking, starting tomorrow. (The biggest challenge is coming up with something relevant that’s not already been done, which leads to “what even is that?” type of visuals sometimes.)
By the way, as long as we’re bitching about changes, not sure I like the new header design. I appreciated the fact that I could click on “account” and select my profile from the drop down. That’s no longer true.
Oh, wait. That NOW happens if I click the ‘hamburger’ menu icon. And, I see my stores.com cash balance is to the right side… Right up top. Cancel that complaint.
Carry on…
@chienfou I posted about this on the Meh-rathon thread last night. Looks like they changed Meh to be like Side Deal. I don’t like the change. Now get off my lawn.
@heartny
Never noticed sidedeal was different…
I’m ok with the change since it is the same number of clicks. And I like the credit balance on the front page.
@werehatrack
wow… you’re a LOT older than I thought!
JK.
I guess I couldn’t find it when I searched for it since I was expecting the actual numerical fraction, not the term.
Yeah-- Not sure I like this new layout and all these new ‘partner’ stores. It reminds me of all the crap and diversification woot went through as it became ‘just another mass storefront’, with shirts, computers, etc. 6 storefronts peddling all the same junk, now with doom scrolling.
I agree 100%
Yeah, I liked the old ones better too.
I agree. Glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. It’s important.
YES!!!
Same here, thanks for bringing this up, @PooltoyWolf!
Add me to the group.

@dave Today’s dark blue on light blue is much better for me
The clay-like face features are not amusing or attractive. They look kind of unsettling, in my opinion. And more than a few of the results have looked NSFW.
Remember this?
I liked the old one as well. The new ones must be AI designed.
I guess I should click one every now and then to see what you’re talking about…

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I, too, miss them. Some were so clever.
@Kidsandliz I also have a click face shirt somewhere!
The wacky final image is also getting farther from the sales item.
@pakopako Today is a perfect example of that!
I think the AI must be hallucinating for the click faces and the last images.
I prefer Human slop over AI slop anyway.

I agree and where’s this months irk?
I agree 100,000%. Hey @dave what do you personally think
As far as the last image (I call it the ‘meme’ image, just to have something to name it) - should I switch back to movies from art? I was enjoying seeing the modern stuff put into old contexts, but maybe movie shots are more fun? Any other ideas?

@dave Yes
@dave I liked the product theme faces best.
@dave I’ve liked the art memes, but the click faces are ugly and the hollow eye holes are especially creepy.
@dave Yes about the meh faces
@dave Yes to getting rid of what we have now. And yes to having someone dream them up and draw them out like, I presume, you did in the past. Maybe hire back part time the person who did the best job of this in the past just to do the daily click face?

@dave If it’s been done before years ago, will people even know? (I suppose someone will.)
@dave Thank you for trying, Dave.
@dave I like it. Even with possible recycled faces. Then someone has to check all the past faces to verify. (Not me. At least I don’t think.)
Looks like a different font, too. Appears thicker and easier to read!
@dave @Kyeh We’re all getting older. Maybe some wrinkles or sagging chins on the repeats?
@dave @Kyeh they’re not reruns, they’re classics
Yay, OG-style clicky face is back
@heartny

@chienfou I went through that same sequence of thoughts last night & came to the same conclusion.
@Kyeh
Great minds think alike… and all that jazz!
@chienfou I posted about this on the Meh-rathon thread last night. Looks like they changed Meh to be like Side Deal. I don’t like the change. Now get off my lawn.

@heartny
Had to go hunt that up. It got buried and i never saw it…
@chienfou @heartny @Kyeh
Change is hard.
That’s why we’re running out of U.S. one cent coins. (I hate calling them “pennies” which are British.
@chienfou @heartny @Kyeh Trivia question. Which US coin was minted bearing a fraction?
(Bet kids back then still wanted one.)
@chienfou
@chienfou @heartny @Kyeh @phendrick
Two bits for a shoe shining?
@phendrick
OK, I’ll bite. What was it? Closest I can find is the CA coins which were not official US currency…
@chienfou @heartny @Kyeh @phendrick ISTR seeing a hslf cent from sometime in the 19th century
@werehatrack
wow… you’re a LOT older than I thought!

hi i am new here
can you help me guys
@luna00
Welcome to the madhouse that is meh, stores.com and it’s affiliate sites.
@luna00 If you have questions, we can maybe cook up answers.
Yeah-- Not sure I like this new layout and all these new ‘partner’ stores. It reminds me of all the crap and diversification woot went through as it became ‘just another mass storefront’, with shirts, computers, etc. 6 storefronts peddling all the same junk, now with doom scrolling.
@caffeineguy
At least the forum is still more active here
Proof that you can make change happen! Also totally not jinxing my best clickface streak in months.
@PooltoyWolf I’m glad we’re getting the more classic-looking ones but I thought last year’s were pretty neat:
@Kyeh Yeah I liked those too!
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf Last year’s were good but this year they were getting a bit wonky and off-topic.
@heartny @PooltoyWolf
And ugly.
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf Silly???!!! This is serious stuff! Gotta click 'em all, or most of them at the very least
@heartny @PooltoyWolf That’s an impressive number! I’m just striving for consistency.
