Product: Laegendary Digger 1:14 Scale Remote Control Excavator
Model: B08SBX5H48
Condition: New
This RC excavator features three independent motors powering the bucket, elbow, and main arm, along with a 680-degree rotating cabin for full directional control
Designed for versatility, it easily navigates sand, concrete, rocks, and more while digging, lifting, and carrying with precision
The easy-to-use remote offers 22 channels, giving you precise, responsive control over every movement of your bulldozer
@llangley@scorpyo72 if you are digging in the sand and find that, quickly bury it and move to another part of the beach far away. Just your luck it was a nude beach too.
@Bretterson That’s a tough one. Without access to the plastic injection mold date stamp, it’s hard to tell when it was made …
Oh, wait. You mean the legal age of the user. Well, I never went for my 1:14 scale excavator license, but I would imagine that it’s at least 18 years or older …
Oh, ummm, I maybe you mean the age of the child that you intend to buy it for. Okay. I found this video :
On the upper left corner of the box it says 14+Age …
Ummm, but maybe that’s how old it is. The video was made in 2021, so 2021 - 14 = 2007 => 19 years old. That’s really old. I wouldn’t trust the batteries at that age.
@Bretterson I bought the older version a couple years ago, my kid was able to figure it out at 8 years old. These things are not by any means fast/sudden.
@Bretterson@cfg83 Snarky and intentionally misinterpreted (often in-depth) replies are a Major Feature here. (Mine don’t rise to that level; they’re just Annoyances.)
@Bretterson my 4.5-year-old has been able to control it plenty well to have fun, but he has also been doing a LOT of RC stuff for the last year because of cancer treatment.
(RC is more fun and less dangerous than other toys when you’re hooked to an IV pole. He got pretty good at flying one of those tiny RC helicopters around his hospital room in a matter of days, last month. Fortunately, hospital rooms have high ceilings, minimal decorations, and durable fixtures.)
@jwschultz
Sorry to hear about your child’s cancer troubles. Thankfully, pediatric oncology is advancing in leaps and bounds. Hopefully treatments will be successful and you all will continue his RC adventures for many years to come.
That’s pretty cool about flying his helicopter around the room. If nothing else that’s also very good hand-eye coordination training.
@cfg83@Kyeh@mycya4me We don’t know everything that they do when we aren’t looking and there’s no camera around. But it would be nice if they could figure out how to run the vacuum.
@chienfou@mediocrebot WOW! I could totally imagine a commercial that starts with this image. The Cat would be using the excavator to manage his poop. Then the lunch whistle blows. While the cat is eating a tuna fish sandwich for lunch, the foreman comes over and says his job is being phased out by a robotic/smart litter box. HOWEVER, unlike the real world, instead of being laid off, he’s promoted to his dream job and assigned to the Red Dot Chase Team. Everybody wins.
@mycya4me
My solution was to buy a cat door that is programmed to my two cats ID chips. I haven’t bought cat litter in 2 years. They let themselves in and out at will and even though there is litter (pine pellets) in the litter box in the bathroom it has gone untouched for 2 years. I leave it there in case something happens and they get trapped inside should the door fail.
@chienfou Thank You for the suggestion, But living near a LOT of woods, there are other critters that roam around, that would NOT mind a nice fat snack! he is now about 4 years old, Spoiled Rotten. I have had him about 2.5 years.
@phendrick
Those aggressive little bastards would probably swarm over the thing and make a mess out of the tracks, hinge points, and possibly even the battery contacts. Still might be worth it though!
/giphy go for it
If I didn’t already have a Mould King (Lego knock off) RC excavator, and a real 1.1 ton mini excavator, I would seriously consider this. Everyone loves excavators!
Seriously though, the fact that this looks to control the boom and stick separately is a good thing. There are a lot of cheap toys out there that combine those motions together with a single motor/channel.
@matttys@werehatrack I was wondering if this uses any legitimate RC Model parts like batteries. The better stuff usually does meaning it’s fixable or even modifiable.
As mentioned the price of a few hobby parts will equally exceed this.
Meh. I spent summers during my college years operating the real things (backhoe, bulldozer, log skidder).
Got over the novelty of playing with the big machines and then it was just work.
@centexman Speculation above says it’s an earthworm. I think that’s being pointedly obfuscatory in support of politeness. For myself, I decline to speculate. Sometimes, you just have to look at the “art” and shake your head. (Or remove the banana from the wall and eat it, which was apparently something that the artist had fully expected would happen.)
I bought this 23 days ago for $84.79 on SideDeal, and I would gladly do it again. Considering getting a second at this price so my 4-year-old and I can work together.
As Nerdelectric points out, this lets you independently control the boom, the stick, and the bucket, so it really lets you do (a very small amount of) work. I filled a small tub with feed corn I had from a cornhole bag project and had him move it to another tub.
We have a smaller RC excavator that just has a back-and-forth cycle motion for the entire bucket apparatus, and that quickly gets boring/frustrating; this one is really pretty cool. It does make a ton of noise when it moves, even when you turn the engine sound effects off.
The other drawback I’ve found so far is that one of the treads works its way off pretty easily, especially on carpet. Might be something I could remedy by attaching it better; I haven’t tried too hard yet.

What’s the age range for this?

@mediocrebot I am pleased, but the dog is worried that the cats will uncover his bone.
@cfg83 You & @mycya4me are both so charmingly optimistic, picturing cats doing WORK!
@Kyeh @mycya4me Yes, we can always hope.

Gotta admit, my first thought when I saw the prompt was this:

@chienfou @mediocrebot Thank You I could use one! My Spoiled Rotten cat would not lift a paw to help!

@chienfou @mycya4me Lucky! Our dorky cat often begs to come in, uses the litter box, then begs to go back outside.

I’d like to thank Kam Patterson for doing a guest writeup today.
Can these withstand fire ant bites?
If so, the battle will be on. Attack!
@phendrick I would like to think so, but the fire ants are tough knobs …

@cfg83 @mediocrebot Someday, I’m going to get up the courage to pour molten aluminum into a fire ant mound. Today is absolutely not that day.

Sure I’ll help in the garden, babe. I have about 90 minutes.

@Nerdelectric Definitely, the boom, stick, and bucket all need to be separate.
So if it’s anything like the excavator version, it’s on the slower side but built like brick shithouse. All metal and a ton of fun.
@seraphimcaduto
?? This is the excavator version…
But thanks for the endorsement.
Plastic gears galore. Beware of sand.
@icerc you have one?
@icerc @ohhwell
It says they’re metal.
@icerc @Kyeh @ohhwell so there are some metal gears, at least.
Their RC car I bought here a few weeks back was surprisingly decent. This might also be pretty good.
Wuddap, Mah Digga!
Fwiw, the batteries alone are worth the $50.
@matttys Assuming they’re decent packs.
@matttys @werehatrack I was wondering if this uses any legitimate RC Model parts like batteries. The better stuff usually does meaning it’s fixable or even modifiable.

Meh. I spent summers during my college years operating the real things (backhoe, bulldozer, log skidder).

@macromeh congratulations…
Am I the only one wondering exactly what the Meh icon is supposed to represent today?

@centexman no, you’re just 12 hours late.

@richrauch Just the first one to mention it, I guess
@centexman @richrauch Umm, check out the very first comment:

If I had a budget for it, I’d totally see if this could mix margaritas. I think it might.
@werehatrack I should try that
Can I use this to do battle with the gophers in my garden? Looks more fun than a macabee trap!
I’ve only played with it for like 10 minutes so far but I’m so glad I bought this
It’s pretty loud tho lol
