I’ll chime in, I bought a vacuum robot from Meh years ago. No lidar, but cheap. Blind beetle cleaning. Deebot! Deebot is a little trooper. He kicks ass and works hard. He became a hard working family member. Busting his ass all over the house. They’re great, assuming you have hard wood floors.
@goldnectar
One of these perhaps?
Mine is 5 yrs in and still going strong. I have replaced numerous filters and a few brushes over the years (3rd party, cheap from Amazon). I can foresee having to do a battery swap in the next few years though. It definitely isn’t running as long as it used to.
$80 well spent…
I have one of these from 2016 when I bought it new ($175) and it still works pretty well. I’ve never replaced the filter (I have cleaned it a few times) and have replaced the brushes with the included ones once.
I have a lower end Shark with self empty base. It requires a little bit of management since it runs into problems sometimes (robot gets stuck on something and runs out of battery, or brush gets jammed, etc). But it has been such a great addition overall, it picks up a lot of stuff off the hard floors. I’m picking up much less when I sweep. Highly recommend.
/showme Shark Robot Vacuum is using LiDAR to talk to goldfish on shelf. Goldfish is suspicious of a vacuum cleaner named “Shark”, but Shark Robot Vacuum is just lonely and wants to make a friend.
When we say “refurbished”, what is the standard we’re talking about? Am I going to receive a used unit that’s filthy and filled with dirt? Or something that’s actually been inspected and cleaned?
@someusername It’s not dirt, it’s a personalized present from the previous owner, a calling card, the smells and textures a tourist senses in their house without the hassle of traveling there.
@Kyeh
Thanks Kyeh, I’m on it! Already threw away $30 on the IRK! I regret not getting a darn tattoo every time a Meh-rathon comes up! I’m gonna bet I’m not the only one…
My guy was just asking me what’s up with the IRKs and the BOCs, how come we haven’t had one in a while. (It’s only been 3 weeks ) He still doesn’t know the difference between them, which one comes from where.
Enjoy your day, and thanks again for the heads up!
@Kyeh
I scored a BOC from Woot today too and I’m pretty excited about it! It was pretty ironic that when I told Johnny I got one he said he was going to ask me this morning why we hadn’t gotten one in a while. He seriously doesn’t grasp the whole concept of how either of these things work. I’ve only explained it a zillion times… But then again it’s taking me WAY TOO LONG to text these few sentences! Guess we just have to work with what we’ve got, or should I have said with what we’ve got left! 🫣 Lol
In case you didn’t know…
EVERY Friday at 2pm EST Woot has a BOC offered on their FB page. I have a recurring event set up on my calendar and then I set a reminder alarm.
I find these much easier to score than anywhere else on their app/website. I get one 9 out of 10 times that I try. Those are pretty good odds if you ask me!
Now back to seeing if there’s anything else I want to waste MORE money on! Lol
@Lynnerizer I’ve never gotten a BOC; somehow the whole WOOT culture has never grabbed me, although I buy things there occasionally (tee shirts, often - @jasneko’s fault! ) I get the Irks here with my ink so I think that’s probably enough; I have more stuff than I need already.
But congratulations on getting yours! Have you gotten really good stuff in them?
@jasneko@Kyeh
Oh, I just assumed everyone here was into both BOCs and IRKs, guess that was pretty silly of me. You KNOW what they say about people who “assume” things… 🫏 Lol
I vote on @jasneko’s T-shirts and I wish I could wear them. I’ve bought them for gifts though, some are just irresistible!
Yes I have gotten lots of good stuff from my BOC, but it’s definitely different than the stuff that comes in the IRK. I’ve got Merrill hiking shoes and boots. Other high end sneakers and it’s crazy but most of them have been in my size! The huge blow up swimming pool was nice but of course it came like a month after I came back to my condo and no longer had a yard for it. Our grandson enjoyed it though. You get lots of useful things in the BOC like notebook and pads, art stuff and lots of good cleaning stuff. And you can always bet that it’s going to be brand new! I’ve gotten a couple of expensive chargers for power tools I don’t own. Of course there’s the fun stuff like color changing stadium cups that the guy/man child is obsessed with. Lol
Edited 30 seconds after posting to say how crazy it is that I just got a notification saying that they’ve/Woot has “Hot Summer DEWALT Deals!” Those are the power tools I was just saying I don’t have. It’s not often that I see a whole page of them. Big brother is ALWAYS watching. It will always continue to blow my mind…
I lost track of the Meh-rathon yesterday, I think it’s the first time I just bought the IRK and then checked out. If it hadn’t been for your heads up I might have missed it. I’m not sure if they sold out or not.
It’s been a little crazy around here lately. I’m recovering from my 3rd surgery in 3 months. Hopefully this will be the last one for a while. And my guy was in the hospital too, he had a mini stroke, a cerebellar infarct. And now he’s been having episodes of losing vision for about 30 seconds and his eye bleeding, like dripping blood down his face. It’s crazy that the 3 eye surgeons and specialists have no idea what’s happening. He’s going to another eye neurologist and hopefully he’ll get some answers.
@Lynnerizer Oh no - I’m so sorry about the new medical problems for both of you, damn. I really hope you get healed fast & they figure out Johhny’s eye problem; that’s very scary.
It does sound like you’ve gotten some pretty cool BOCs!
I actually gave away some things today to a young woman furnishing her apartment, and I’ve offered more if she wants them. I have a hard time making myself take stuff to the thrift stores because their hours are all so restrictive so it’s great when I can give things away directly. I gave her a lamp & some cookware. So it’s probably best if I don’t find another source of random STUFF!
@Kyeh
Ha, I hear ya about not finding another place to acquire STUFF!
That’s such a good feeling when you can find someone who really needs, likes, and wants your stuff, it’s much better than giving it to the thrift store and then making them pay for it. Your heart must be full! Thanks for the well wishes, things have got to get better soon!
@Lynnerizer - Thank you for voting, and aww that’s nice you find some of them so irresistible you buy them for gifts!
So sorry about all the health troubles for both of you… that is so scary. Really hope things are figured out quickly and that you both recover as best as possible!
Our last version of this choked to death on dog hair. Four dogs with two coats each. That equals 8 for those of you that were educated in a California school system. Our option was to either let the dogs eat it or give it away to someone we didn’t like. Since we couldn’t find somebody we didn’t like that would take it we had to give it to a friend. They still talk to us once in awhile.
After trying countless puck-style robot vacuums over the last 20 years, I plunked down the extra money for a Matic and couldn’t be happier.
It vacuums and mops, doesn’t require me to empty a dust bin, doesn’t run into things, doesn’t require a connection to the cloud, doesn’t send my data to the manufacturer, and it keeps getting better through weekly software updates.
It’s considerably more expensive than a $150 refurbished Shark, but also well worth it, IMO.
If anybody wants to try the Matic, you can use my referral link below to get a year of bags for free (they’re about $3 a piece and last 2–4 weeks in my experience). I get $100 in credit towards accessories if you use it, but no other financial incentives or anything—I’m just a happy customer.

So 2 or 3 days of (dried) cat litter?
@phendrick If you have three or more cats, the shedding alone will fill it in two days or less.
@phendrick @werehatrack
We’re down to 2. When we clean under the fridge every few months we dig out enough hair to build another cat.
@phendrick @werehatrack

If you have three or more cats, you have bigger issues than emptying the robot vacuum…
@BioBill @phendrick @werehatrack Only months? Days with my German Shepherds.
Hmmmm …

@cfg83 Here’s the image you requested for “Shark Robot Vacuum is using LiDAR to talk to goldfish on shelf. They are talking about the weather.”
@mediocrebot Ooooooooh, I should have said goldfish was suspicious of anyone named Shark,
@cfg83
It’s not too late
@kittykat9180 To whip it?

@mediocrebot Hey, this shark already comes with google eyes. That’s a win.

Also, more importantly: is it r0x0rz?
@someusername
TIL: r0x0rz
@someusername Mine was astoundingly pristine.
@someusername It’s not dirt, it’s a personalized present from the previous owner, a calling card, the smells and textures a tourist senses in their house without the hassle of traveling there.
Yes to all the reasons in the write up.
Well done.
I bought the $99 one a couple weeks ago. Spent like an hour trying to “teach” it my house.
It learned nothing, and decided to become self-aware at 4am started bumping into shit and sending me texts.
Haven’t touched it since.

@Pufferfishy
Maybe it was offended by its name!
@chienfou @Pufferfishy
@Pufferfishy In the Army, we called an issue like this “operator headspace and timing.”
@chienfou @Pufferfishy I think Pufferfishy meant ThisSucker3000. Whenever I type “this” my subconscious brain will respell it for me.
@Pufferfishy
I got one about a year ago that vacuumed and mopped. I never attempted the mop feature but vacuuming worked great.
To everyone complaining about how useless this is, you can believe me when I say… “I’ve wasted A LOT MORE money on MUCH MORE useless stuff lately”! 🫣
/giphy HAPPY MONDAY, ENJOY YOUR WEEK!

Hey, @Lynnerizer - you’re always hoping for a Mehrathon - so you need to come
