@Clumber Banana flavoring tastes like banana if you are old enough to remember eating Gros Michel bananas. Then disease killed them off and the smaller, less flavorful Cavendish replaced them.

@Clumber @rockblossom Gros Michel still exists on a few islands in the Caribbean among other places, primarily as a dooryard fruit that you might encounter in a small local market. I had the opportunity to verify this a couple of years back, and yes, the Gros Michel has a different and stronger flavor than the Cavendish. There are several other strains being developed for replacement of the Cavendish when the evolving blight takes it out. I am sure that the growers will repeat their original mistake and establish a massive monoculture once again with the new one.
