A party is an organization that coordinates chefs to compete in BBQs and participate in cook-offs. It is common for the members of a party to hold similar ideas about hot dogs, and parties may promote specific potato chips or deserts.
And yes, I sob too. They don’t make parties like they used to.
Depends on the party. Sometimes food, sometimes booze, sometimes board games. Of course, that was back when I lived somewhere that I had friends and family. Now there are no parties except my regularly scheduled pity party.
@chienfou@kittykat9180 me neither, but considering it since in many ways it’s less toxic than the alcohol I grew up on and still use. Gummies are popular. Here things are legal and lab-tested (they say) for THC content. They say control your dose and maybe start with only 1/4 or 1/2.
I will say in college I had a very bad experience with some brownies made by my friends and they were tasty and I was hungry. Back then there was no testing like there is on store-bought goods now. I think I was gone for about 24 hours but did make it up to my apartment which was upstairs. Missed a college job interview that was scheduled, but it was probably a sucky company anyway. When I went to the next interview a day later they said I was crossed off their list. They said I must have done something bad, which actually gave me rep points I think. It was a rebellious startup. I worked there or descendants thereof for almost 40 years. In the end the IPO stocks worked out OK.
I once took a chocolate fountain, but that ended up being a pain because I had to tend to it, and then later someone managed to burn the motor out when I put it in the break room afterwards. (Work Christmas party.) The higher ups did replace it for me, but I’ve never used it since.
Anybody want a chocolate fountain?
@Kyeh Tempting. But I think that would take more couth to use than I usually demonstrate. Sounds like extra work instead of chomping chocolate directly.

It depends on the party. I’ve literally shown up at a birthday party and said, “I didn’t know if I was supposed to bring anything so I didn’t.” Granted, I wasn’t informed it was a birthday party but I certainly felt foolish when I found out. I should keep a bottle of meh wine in the trunk of my car. Then I’ll always have a gift; if the bottle survives the trunk that is.
@Arhelger
Yeah, depending on where you live, aging wine in a truck is probably not a good plan. Even though there are some spectacular wines and liquors aged on ships, I’m afraid a trunk is not exactly the same kind of environment…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@chienfou yeah, you’re right. Now that I’m thinking about it, I’ve had a couple of my trunk bowling balls explode. It’s always a surprise. Texas is hot. Then cold. Then something terrible inbetween with lots of humidity and no breeze. Then cold again. I can’t imagine a wine bottle would fare better than a bowling ball. What about a trunk scotch? Or would that be the same thing? I usually just give random crap I have on my person. It tends to be a brass peanut lighter. Maybe I stick with that? How badass would it be to the trunk scotch guy though.
A lingering sense of unease and an uncomfortable amount of DBD knowledge, which I WILL share with you guys very soon. As soon as my work ethic comes back. Hopefully today(?)
@pakopako I saw something on TV recently about “kids these days” never heard of a Rolodex or why anyone would ever need one; all the contacts are already in your phone, right?
Inflatables!
depends on the host/hostess
maybe wine
maybe limoncello
maybe smoked salt
maybe flowers
maybe dessert
maybe fresh sourdough bread
etc. etc.
What’s a party?
sobbing softly
@tweezak - Sometimes you have to make your own

@tweezak

@aetris @tweezak I guess we both need more Irk plushies.
@sammydog01 I now have two so if you need one, just contact me during the next Meh exchange!
@tweezak A party? Oh, that’s easy :
And yes, I sob too. They don’t make parties like they used to.

@Pony
I bring pity and esp self-pity to pity parties.
@f00l @Pony wow, I guess they are FUN! please don’t invite me!
Most def food. And probably whisky. Or cocktail happiness.
@sillyheathen
I’m sure both are appreciated!
My best acted regrets, for not being able to attend.
Party? For that I’d have to have friends.
When I was younger and cooler, I’d bring bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers.
@kittykat9180
…I’d bring papers or a bong…
Still make poppers at home since I grow jalapenos every year!
@chienfou
I don’t use drugs, I don’t think you and I would be going to the same kind of parties.
@chienfou @kittykat9180 me neither, but considering it since in many ways it’s less toxic than the alcohol I grew up on and still use. Gummies are popular. Here things are legal and lab-tested (they say) for THC content. They say control your dose and maybe start with only 1/4 or 1/2.

@kittykat9180 @pmarin
Been the better part of 50 years since I smoked any pot to speak of… I was referencing the “when I was younger” part…
@chienfou @kittykat9180 Me neither!

@Kyeh I want a chocolate fountain. It would go great with my cotton candy machine.
@Pony It would! Invite me to a party & I’ll bring it & leave it with you.
(When @Sillyheathen comes out, maybe!)
@Kyeh Tempting. But I think that would take more couth to use than I usually demonstrate. Sounds like extra work instead of chomping chocolate directly.

@phendrick Here’s the image you requested for “impatient dude sticking head into chocolate fountain, like Mongo lighting cigar in Blazing Saddles”
@mediocrebot I’m not whelmed by that image.
@phendrick It’s a lot of work, especially cleaning the damn thing.
@Kyeh @sillyheathen Ha! Health issues allowing, it kinda sounds like a plan.
@mediocrebot @phendrick
But it meets the defining criteria…
@Kyeh I guess I’m spoiled by my dog helping me clean food from dishes (not chocolate though). I’d have to lick that fountain clean all by myself. (Don’t worry, I’d sanitize with a couple shots of good bourbon first, such as below )

@mediocrebot @phendrick Ha! I thought this was from a real sitcom.
My Salsa or Macaroni Salad if it’s a potluck. A nice bottle of what ever the Host/Hostess likes to drink
@Oldelvis
I make a great pico de gallo
My wife and what ever she hands me to carry.
@rustyh3
This is truly the way!
@chienfou @rustyh3
)
Same. (My wife, that is.
And her usual goto is hummus + things to dip in it. (And double-dipping is strictly not allowed!)

Usually, the party.
I’ve got a rolodex, favors, and booze ready to move.
@pakopako I saw something on TV recently about “kids these days” never heard of a Rolodex or why anyone would ever need one; all the contacts are already in your phone, right?
@pmarin not even; they’re in the cloud thanks to being on so many communication apps (WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, Partiful, etc)
Most tell me the only thing I need to bring is Myself!
@mycya4me Yeah, my cooking wouldn’t win any awards, either.
@macromeh But I do bake some Awesome Banana Nut/ Chocolate chip bread. I have been asked to bring that before!
MEALS! DEALS! EELS! AWESOME!
