@heartny@unksol i will have to look that up don’t know anything about it. I have 2 friends that were boaters. One was big and tall don’t know how he fit. He was a sonarman. He explained about the hunters and boomers.he was a hunter.
I live along the Columbia River part of the year.they still bring retired nuclear material up to Hanford. Always a big barge and accompanied by a YP (Yard Patrol) boat.
@heartny@pmarin all US submarines are nuclear. Hunters being the attack class so mostly Virgina class of various blocks. The newer block III having more segments for VLS. A couple seawolfs planned prior to the USSR collapse that have been tweaked
Boomers are the nuclear missile carriers although 4 have been converted to SSGN… Cruise missile trucks. So 150+ tomahawks. Columbia class in the works
But nuclear subs are expensive and the old battery/snorkel only submerged style like WW2 is also bad. Hence AIP costal subs
If these are anything like their magnetic tipped cables, them shits come off super easy, and then extracting it from the port on your device is really hard
@CraigDanger@ShotgunX Don’t you need to pull out the magnetic tip to charge with a regular charger? It doesn’t look like there’s any kind of passthrough.
@Adamamesh@CraigDanger I feel I should clarify thats just a turn of phrase joke. I feel like it would be disturbing in real life… Maybe should reconsider that one…
@SterlingArcher from the quick questions i asked on amazon, it says its only 1 way charging, and google says the ps5 also doesnt send power. Amazon also said it doesnt do passthrough charging either, though usually the charge port will be blocked.
If you plug the tip into your phone and disconnect it from the charger, how big is it? I’ve been looking for something to keep lint out of my phone’s charging port.
@gominosensei I have some of the other Statik products from various orders and IRKs. I took a picture of one of their USB-C pieces on top of a quarter. Cheers!
@gominosensei
It’s very small if it’s the magnetic tip that you are asking about. I leave mine in my phone all the time! It’s a different brand but they’re all the same size, I’ve used many different brands. I think they’ll do the trick for keeping the dust out!
@goldnectar Depending on how much activity goes on in your living space, these can be awesome. I am somewhat clumsy and have a great dane and roomate, so tripping over cables has ruined a couple outlets (yes the outlet) as well as cables. These come free without breaking anything. Plus once you invest in extra tips to have all your items charging with this system, it is GREAT to be able to charge any device with any free cable and you don’t have to worry about which tip type of cable is available. I’ve been known to spend more for a product just because it has usb-c charging (instead of a cheaper one with micro or standard), so my quest for “all things, one cable” was made significantly easier with this product. When I travel, and I can charge all of my devices with a single cable, which reduces electronic clutter.
So there’s this weird magnetic thing on the back of my phone that’s super strong… much better than constantly knocking off a charger connected to a tiny magnet stuck in the charging port.
@Adamamesh The issue isn’t speed. The issue is that this thing connects magnetically to a very small magnetic plug. It’s easy to disconnect. And you know how quickly it charges at that point? MagSafe doesn’t have that concern.
If you’re going to try to be the smartest person in the room, maybe reconsider the comment in the first place.
@Adamamesh@cinoclav Just adding in here, the specs for this device say 10W max, which I believe is a lower spec than magsafe (I don’t own an iphone). So, while a direct connection is generally the way to go, in this case the max speed would be slower than wireless.
I personally like the idea of this for the devices around my home and office that don’t have PD and need a slow charge.
@cinoclav@gwrankin Yes, magsafe is definitely faster - but it can never be as efficient - anyway that other guy is doing some weird shaking of his phone or something that makes things fall off of it, which magsafe definitely doesn’t have a problem with.
I love the idea of these, but I’ve got all statik pro cables, which is a more updated plug system and isn’t compatible with the “plain statiik” version. So i’d have to switch out the plug in order to use. Pass for me, but I’m still sad about it!
@whitelightertre Oh damn. I ordered them thinking all statik were the same. Thankfully I can still find uses at work, so it’s not going to be a total loss. I’ll just keep in mind they won’t be interchangeable.
@gwrankin My “plain” cables were also Meh purchases (the glowing cables from a long while back), so if I ended up just having a bad experience with cross compatibility and these DO work, please come let us know!
Anybody know how well these play with a case for your phone (like an OtterBox). Is the c plug long enough to reach with the case in place? Will I need to get the Dremel out to modify the case? If I plug it into my controller (which isn’t in a case) will it stick out and be in the way?
@chienfou Ahh, no I didn’t see it, but I can answer your question.
It didn’t make a good enough connection with my Caseology Parallax case; though a Dremel-like engraver I have would have solved it. I could have etched it open a bit on each side.
It works great with my Latercase, but I would think that’s obvious if you’re familiar with them. They’re super thin.
To answer your controller question. I don’t think it’d be too much in the way. If you scroll up in the comments, I posted an image of the Statik Pro adapter, which I think is the same size; it just has a fancier center. I have an electric fly swatter that I got on meh over the summer and a statik adapter is perfect for it. Sure it sticks out a bit, but the convenience is totally worth it!
(Looks up reviews on Amazon… promptly hits Meh button.)
I’ve regularly had issues with anything with rechargeable batteries from Meh–from barely holding a charge to not working at all. I certainly don’t need a product known to have issues even when new from Amazon.
@EnigmaV8
That’s interesting. I’ve had exactly the opposite luck. Virtually everything I’ve gotten from here has worked great. Several things are still in heavy rotation

At first I thought they were tiny submarines.
@heartny Probably North Korean (rejected) prototypes.
@heartny the air independent submarines are very cool. Not something we do in the US cause blue water nuclear.
But the European costal defense ones are very good

France/Germany/Japan/South Korea … Of course China
They are so cheap we should build some… Just to try
If these are anything like their magnetic tipped cables, them shits come off super easy, and then extracting it from the port on your device is really hard
@CraigDanger That’s kind of the point.
@CraigDanger @ShotgunX Don’t you need to pull out the magnetic tip to charge with a regular charger? It doesn’t look like there’s any kind of passthrough.
@CraigDanger don’t worry buddy, they have a flared base, they won’t go all the way in.
@Adamamesh @CraigDanger something something just the tip
@Adamamesh @CraigDanger
TWSS?
@Adamamesh @CraigDanger I feel I should clarify thats just a turn of phrase joke. I feel like it would be disturbing in real life… Maybe should reconsider that one…
Meh is all about charging docks and snacks…
Charging docks are snacks for your devices.
Will these charge from the controller–such as when it’s sitting on a charging dock? Or can the banks only be charged separately?
@SterlingArcher from the quick questions i asked on amazon, it says its only 1 way charging, and google says the ps5 also doesnt send power. Amazon also said it doesnt do passthrough charging either, though usually the charge port will be blocked.
If you plug the tip into your phone and disconnect it from the charger, how big is it? I’ve been looking for something to keep lint out of my phone’s charging port.
@gominosensei I don’t know anything about this product but silicone dust plugs are available and very inexpensive.

@gominosensei @gwrankin that’s great, but without a banana for scale, how do we know how big that quarter is?
@gominosensei @gwrankin @warpedrotors Isn’t it one quarter scale?
@rpstrong

NICE ONE!

Just the tips?
@El_Oel my beautiful and kind-of hot woman friend did that. Using a slicer I think.
This is fn weird. I wonder if this will be a thing I didn’t know I needed. Also equally, this could be a thing that is like, “wtf was I thinking?”

MEALS! DEALS! EELS! AWESOME!
So there’s this weird magnetic thing on the back of my phone that’s super strong… much better than constantly knocking off a charger connected to a tiny magnet stuck in the charging port.
@cinoclav that magnetic charger on the back is far less efficient than a direct electrical connection that happens to be held together with magnets.
@Adamamesh The issue isn’t speed. The issue is that this thing connects magnetically to a very small magnetic plug. It’s easy to disconnect. And you know how quickly it charges at that point? MagSafe doesn’t have that concern.

@cinoclav Only an idiot would want to be the smartest person in the room - it’s so boring.
@Adamamesh I’m aware.

Jokes on you, Rockstar. im not paying $100+ to lease a video game
@visioneer_one I think they’ll be fine
But not real old iPhones…
@cornchip Funny thing is, it would probably stick to a 30 pin dock better than the current iteration.
I love the idea of these, but I’ve got all statik pro cables, which is a more updated plug system and isn’t compatible with the “plain statiik” version. So i’d have to switch out the plug in order to use. Pass for me, but I’m still sad about it!

Seems like a very stable genius alerted everyone that if water gets on a magnet, it’s done. So I guess buy at your own risk?
@TheoKrull They’re working on a steam version.
@TheoKrull
Either way, probably best not to submerge your cell phone, video game controller, tablet, etc just to be safe!

I’m in for two; but got a rather questionable order number.

Power bank, papapa power bank, chewin’ on some stale snacks, lookin at shit tat, so bad- why did they make that? Power bank!
And then it repeats for another 20 minutes.
I bet these aren’t great, but i grabbed em for my switch 2 for all the great JRPGs coming out for handheld mode
I love the statik cables, they have saved my phones & tablets many usb port traumas, which is often the death knell of devices.
This…I dunno. It applies some torque to the USB port.
