German bier is different
14
this picture was taken on the opening day of Oktoberfest in Munich. we watched the parade, ate sausages, and then went into the Armbrustschützenzelt tent. we sat, we ate more, and we drank. it was a wonderful time, and i feel like i moderated my drinking pretty well. after all, i didn’t want to end up at the Kotzhügel (vomit hill).
after returning home, one of the group members mentioned a ride. one of those swings that spin and go high up in the air. i asked, “oh fun, where was i when you guys went on that?”.
after a brief pause on the text thread, someone said, “you were on the ride sitting next to your wife”. they sent a blurry, cropped picture of a brown man in lederhosen. i maintain my stance that i did not go on the ride. and then, i was told that i had wayyyyy more to drink than i thought:
i was seen doing shots of Jager with random people in the tent
i had 3 more drinks from a bar kiosk after we left the tent
i may have had more shots with our group members outside the tent
i wandered away at some point with the only actual german in our group to hunt down a pin and more sausages
i may have bought cotton candy. i hate cotton candy.
on the plus side, i was described by my wife as a very happy drunk. so anyway, go to Oktoberfest in Munich if you can. if you have questions about it, apparently i’m not the one to ask.
Prost!

That sounds like a great time was had by everyone. It’s a shame you don’t know how much of a great time it was, though.
@Thumperchick i mean, i remember the beginning and the end. it’s only about 3 hours that’s missing. but at least i apparently had a great time in those 3 hours. (as well as the stuff i do remember)
@carl669 @Thumperchick you should have your wife/friends create a slide show and then share it if you’re good.
Regardless a sort of net positive if you were that intoxicated and didn’t fuck up. Get in trouble. Have the wife have to bail you out. Lol
Fuckin’ awe-some.
Definitely a place/event I’ve always wanted to check out. Maybe one day…
BTW… Given the quantities you reportedly consumed I’m impressed you only lost 3 hours!!
@chienfou it really was a fun experience. the news said approximately 1 million people attended opening day.
@carl669
So that means YOU are one in a million!
@carl669 @chienfou
@chienfou one in a million that ate a million sausages
@chienfou And didn’t puke on the ride.
Hahaha fuck yeah you went on that ride! This is why I’m banned from jager. There was an incident for the last in-house Easter brunch at our restaurant. The Englishman left to sign for a delivery, our house was a few minutes from the restaurant, and I was the life of the party when he got back about 30 minutes later. Apparently I’d had multiple shots of jager in his absence even though he’d requested I specifically not drink it…. I don’t remember most of that night and what I do was truly a fever dream. That ish is dangerous.
I’m really glad yall went and had an amazing time. I also request proof of the ride with the blurry photo!
I do have a question. Are there more people in traditional dress or non? I’ve always wondered if it’s more tourists in fancy dress than locals. Kind of like Mardi Gras and tourists asking locals to show their tits. That will get you a sock in the mouth if you’re anywhere other than bourbon street.
@sillyheathen i’d say about 70% of the people there were in traditional dress. no one really cares either way. i was told (by the German guy in our group) that if i was buying lederhosen, don’t get the costume that you can pick up from spirit halloween for $10.
for reference, i’m pretty sure the German guy in our group was also party to the Jager shots. hence the wandering with him looking for pins and sausages
@carl669 @sillyheathen Both your outfits look really good. Are your lederhosen real leather?
@Kyeh thank you!
the lederhosen are suede leather (supposedly goat skin). i was worried they would be blazing hot, but they were surprisingly comfortable. although, i should have worn them around the house for a couple weeks to break them in.
@carl669 Well, next time you’ll know, huh?
@carl669 @Kyeh
Guess I can cross out Octoberfest as a destination for one of our family trips since the daughter and her family are all vegans!
Personally I’m all about bier und wurst but I’m not sure I have the legs for lederhosen! Guess I showed up late in the day it wouldn’t matter. Everybody would be too hammered to give a crap!
Enjoy your visit.
@chienfou nah… make the trip. i’m sure there’s some kind of food available for anyone. and don’t worry about the lederhosen. there were plenty of people there just wearing regular street clothes and no one bats an eye.
Good motherfucking start!
What the fuck comes next?
@f00l
/showme beer on a bier
@f00l Here’s the image you requested for “beer on a bier”
@f00l the next step is to not go anywhere for a couple months and just relax. we had 2 trips, back to back. while they were both a lot of fun, they were also exhausting.
@carl669
Well I fucking hope you two will go forth and keep overdoing things when on a motherfucking vacay!
@f00l @mediocrebot What’s next? Bears.
/showme Bear at Octoberfest drinking honey bier.
@cfg83 Here’s the image you requested for “Bear at Octoberfest drinking honey bier.”
@carl669 @f00l
I hear you.
We were gone more than we were home in September between a 7 day cruise, 5 day beach trip to visit friends, then 2 week leaf-peeping trip to Vermont & Canada that spilled into October. I’m ready to be home for a while.
@cfg83 @f00l Here’s a bear who knows how to take it easy:
Since you had the outfit did you join in any traditional dances? (That you remember…)
@macromeh anything is possible in that 3 hours
100% on my bucket list!! I would absolutely LOVE this experience!! I’ve been to the Oktoberfest celebration in New Ulm, MN, and that was SOOOO much fun! This has to be that times 1000000!!
@tohar1 I went to Oktoberfest at the Germanic-American institute in Minneapolis a few years ago, and it was a blast. but it obviously can’t hold a candle to the one in Munich. it really is amazing. I would recommend it to anyone that’s interested. so, startaking that plan for next year and go!
