Lucky Nephew. I usually deposit $ in my two Granddaughters’ Savings Accts, but my eldest recently turned 16 so I gave her a keychain with a little tag that read, Have Fun and Make Good Choices. Got her License, and a Sweet 16 Pendant. Plus some $$. So, depends on what’s happening.
Both my parents and parents-in-law have more granddaughters than grandsons but in our household we’ve only got boys, so we’re most likely to be buying a gift for a niece than a nephew and there’s nobody in the house to consult on what girls these days are into.
We always used to ask their parents for suggestions, or try to come up with something (just like how things were when we were growing up; we got to make a wishlist but our parents did not share that with relatives, considering it inappropriate).
But about 10 years ago we switched to cash or amazon gift cards. It just doesn’t feel as right as trying to find that awesome gift, but its not about our feels, its for the kids, and they’re happiest with spending money.
We just get a list from their mother and get something from that.
@Luko26 how does one do this without talking to their mother or father?
@Luko26 @njfan
Amazon wish lists?
Easy, because my only niece is like 30 and knows how to use an Amazon wish list.
Easy since we don’t exchange gifts once they become adults
Shopping?
Nope. Cash is king.
Or trips. I took my nephew to Disney World and to Poland

My only nephew works at Disneyworld, so doesn’t need gifts. He can get everything he wants.
None of these answers apply. I just consult my siblings, and they tell me what their kids like, even though we’re thousands of miles away.

They still also get a small real gift to unwrap.
