@poodlepaw Okay, I’ve heard of Lindsey Horan (Heaps), Megan Rapinoe, and Kristie Mewis, but I’ve never heard of Raschel Fleece. Did she play for us or agin’ us? And why did they nickname her Polyester? Is she wrinkle-free in her old age?
@Kyeh@poodlepaw@PooltoyWolf TIL. I guess Goodwill had torn those labels off so as not to off-put their customers from buying those.

Ummm. I would expect for these to be sold as singles for $7.99 and maybe I buy 1. Forcing me to buy 3!?!? For $25!?!? Maybe $20 if it was for a good cause. Local children’s choir selling cheap blankets to earn enough to sing at Carnegie Hall. Ok, sure. I’ll buy them for $20 and use them in the dog crates……. But $25!?!? And your not kids!!! Your just their parents! Ick! You make me sick, capitalist pigs!
@Num1Zero
/showme a meh.com warehouse run by only kids of different ages. The kids are packing cheap NASA blankets in boxes to be shipped. The managers and supervisors are also kids.
@TimW It look like mediocrebot has been quite accurate lately regarding meh. I like their mission statement on the back wall. Note that supervisors shouldn’t be weird. Lol
@alose@goldnectar@Kidsandliz where are you all buying blankets such that $24 is expensive for a blanket??? I bought a fleece throw earlier this year and IIRC it was $25 but didn’t have the cool NASA logo on it.
@goldnectar If they were smart, they would have offered all four for $32. Or some kind of bargain for buying all four. I don’t know what their margins are here. If they paid the same for each of the four different blankets, pricing the NASA at $24 seems a dick move from multiple angles.
@alose@goldnectar@TimW At Ollies an oversized thick one is $14.99. at Bee-cees (or however that is spelled) they had the same blanket for $24.99. On sale the nicer ones are often in the $15 range, the crappy thin ones more like $7-9 on sale. Of course we have no idea if these on sale here are thick or thin…
@xjoex You got a problem with Rapinoe? She strikes me as among the more likable of American sports figures. She’s certainly more worthy and likable than some of her more famous critics. And I while I can think of several reasons I appreciate her, can’t recall anything she’s ever done to deserve scorn.
RapiNOOOOO has done more to HARM Woman’s Soccer than anyone! She’s knelt during the US Anthem. Pushed extreme Progressive Politics. Pushed the false “Equal Pay” BS. AND LOST a lot to Boys (15 and under team) and Men (Senior 50+, IIRC) teams.
Her picture is next to the definition of “Harpy” in the dictionary! (Well, it should be!)
I wouldn’t buy anything with her name on it! Not even to burn!
Correction: AND LOST to Boys (15 and under team) and Men (retired) teams.
ADD:
Also she led the White House Boycott (2019), injecting politics (once again) into sports!
But most of all, she wants to allow BIOLOGICAL MALES into WOMEN’S SPORTS! Science has long shown males have physical strength over females. We’ve seen time and time again where biological males beat biological females, sometimes with INJURIES! And no, Bobby Riggs vs. Billie Jean King wasn’t a legitimate test.
@xjoex agree. Funny how a certain brand of coffee was “too divisive and problematic” but this is fine. Always goes one way… They got a whole company banned but we need to cope and get over it. Hypocrisy
@MarkDaSpark@RichSPK@xjoex Y’all have already wasted enough of my time. And it’s my understanding that the folks at meh would prefer that we not dive into the politics. So you’ll just have to frolic in the falsehoods and mud without me.
All I’ll say is that this place, like this country, has sure gone to shit lately.
I’m not sure what your deal is (well, I have some guesses), Joey, but you’re doing a lot of projecting as far as I can tell.
Granted, you’re annoying as fuck, but there’s nothing to either cope with or cry over as far as I can tell. If I thought you capable of articulating any of it, I’d ask what gave you the impression that I think there is; and I might even ask why you’re so worked up that you feel compelled to squeal out infantile insults.
You simply don’t matter and, as I said, you’re not worth wasting the time on. You clearly lack not only the basic skills, but the disposition and inclination for a rational conversation. I’d explain, but you wouldn’t understand anyway (this is in part for others and myself).
@RichSPK I made some effort to avoid politics. As far as I can remember (and see at a quick glance), I said nothing more than:
She’s certainly more worthy and likable than some of her more famous critics.
You can take that as political, but it certainly needn’t be. Since you’ve raised the issue, some of the folks who get worked up about her are political figures or do so because of her perceived politics, but they’re not the only ones. And even folks who hate her for obvious political reasons often at least pretend otherwise.
Is it political for me to like her and the squads she’s been part of? Is it political for me to appreciate the way our women’s soccer teams have generally represented the country? That strikes me as a tad overly sensitive.
Part of my whole point is that I despise all of that nonsense. I honestly don’t know much about her politics and wouldn’t pretend otherwise. I’m not unaware of a few things she’s said and done, but if I were pressed, I’d defer.
I do know that some folks don’t like her because of her sexual identity, presentation and preferences. Beyond her skills on the field, that’s most of what I know about her. You may note that I didn’t bring that up. But for the record, I consider the way folks treat her because of their own politics is a matter of basic human rights and human decency, on the one side, and outright bigotry and hatefulness on the other.
I’m not naive and I don’t pretend to have not considered the possibility of a cultist or homophobic response. I was hoping otherwise. Even if folks felt those urges, I had hoped that they would be less obnoxious about it.
Do you have a problem with the Women’s Soccer blankets? I don’t. If you do, I’d suggest that your beef is with Mercatalyst or in fact that you’re the one bringing your politics here.
We could simply appreciate things or we could simply have a based and legitimate conversation about the players. That’s what I’d prefer. If you think I’m bringing my politics here, I suggest you re-read what I wrote and its context.
Indeed, I specifically eschewed the political conversation others had started, responding with:

I like that it found not 1 but 2 Biden taxes but did not mention the tariffs that WE all pay.

“BOTched”. I like that modern rendition of an old word. Do you get the credit? I will probably steal it and use it liberally.
@pmarin
I didn’t mean to get touchy. I would have been okay with presidential medal of freedom. Unfortunately too many people have those two (very distinct) honors confused.
I’m a big fan of NASA (and other current and former national scientific efforts), but I’m not completely in love with the design and it seems silly to pay three times as much for it than for the blankets honoring our Women’s Soccer team. I don’t follow soccer closely (I do find myself increasingly preferring it to American football, and increasingly appreciating and wanting to support women’s teams in most sports; women’s collegiate basketball and the WNBA, for instance, are in some ways superior to the men’s games, and certainly grossly under appreciated), and I’m not a fan of the whole jingoistic American patriotism thing, but I particularly like Rapinoe and it almost seems misogynistic to pass up such relative bargain.
I can’t help thinking it was all a scheme on meh’s part—enticing me with the NASA blanket, knowing I probably wouldn’t have bought it for $24, but also knowing that this would set me up to almost feel compelled to buy the soccer blankets. Well played. I don’t mind. My eyes are open. But well played nevertheless.
@joelmw “women’s collegiate basketball and the WNBA, for instance, are in some ways superior to the men’s games”
Not to me; and, judging by revenues, not to most sports fans. Please elucidate your take on that.
Especially considering how they fail at actually calling fouls! Or protecting players! Just look at how many times the Iowa Fever players get fouled without ANY calls by the “refs”! Talk about needing “white canes”!!!
The WNBA is LOSING $$$ and needs constant injections from the NBA to stay solvent!
@phendrick I was conciliatory below, but I’m willing to confess that you’re starting to convince me that you are an asshole.
I suggest that you take a moment to actually read and make an effort to understand what others are saying instead of simply using their words as an ad hoc foundation for your soap boxes.
It’s a little frustrating to put care into choosing my words and then have them altogether disregarded.
It’s also obvious that there’s a shit ton of reactionary tribal toxicity afoot here, and I’ve got better ways to waste my time than bearing the weight of an actual conversation you’re clearly disinterested in.
I didn’t mean this below, but you’re quite welcome to go fuck yourself.
@chienfou Not sure how I missed your comment, but I agree. “Most” is appropriate. And I appreciate the correction. Tuskegee is a crime we’ve yet to fully atone for.
Speaking of NASA, if you’re not already following and a fan of APOD, what the fuck is the matter with you?
If you liked it, but have been put off by its erstwhile clunky interface, know that it’s been revamped over the last few years and is now considerably slicker and easier to navigate.
In either case, check it out. Don’t be an asshole.
Finally, my second favorite Chrome extension (after Dashlane) is a startup widget called APOD by the Trav. It’s also been recently enhanced and is now better than ever. Indeed, you can see my review for it that I’ve updated over the years, if you want a quick rundown of some of the tweaks. The main thing is that it shows you and facilitates your perusal of the APsOD.
@joelmw I guess anyone that would refer to other Meh habitues who don’t use the same favorite apps as they do as “asshole” must in turn be a real douchebag. Not everyone can be as enlightened as you see yourself. Lighten up, maybe?
@phendrick I’m genuinely at a loss to reconcile your telling me to lighten up when I was fairly obviously being about as light as one may be. I’m not here to seriously trade barbs over anything as insignificant as your or my preferred software or hardware. Full stop.
I’m not sure how my tone could have been more clear, and clearly benign without being pollyanna and/or risking being taken as sarcastic and condescending.
Jesus Fuck, can’t a guy have fun around here anymore?
Nevertheless, I’m sorry to have offended. That was the farthest thing from my intent.
I mean, if we want to talk politics or tech bros who do sincerely cast aspersions on those who choose differently, I’m your douchebag. To be very clear, I’m quite earnest about serious things. I could give half a fuck what kind of phone or apps you use.
Moreover, I am quite sincere in my appreciation for my man, Travis, and for the stars. Even there, it’s no skin off my back if you’re not into APOD. Different strokes and all that, and I know plenty of folks who are. It is a shame if you don’t get to appreciate Trav the way I do, but I don’t expect that everyone will. Just don’t talk shit about him without at least giving his goods a try.
Looking at the reviews for the NASA blanket the seller has used that site for a bunch of different blankets so can’t tell anything about this blanket (I was looking to see if it is thin or thick) as buyers are reviewing a variety of blankets.
Got my NASA blanket today. It’s warm, and stupidly cozy still after I carefully cold washed and gentle dried it, but it is pretty thin so I have low expectations of longevity. It fits my back of the couch in the nerdy computer room aesthetic perfectly.

Looking at the reviews for the NASA blanket the seller has used that site for a bunch of different blankets so can’t tell anything about this blanket (I was looking to see if it is thin or thick) as buyers are reviewing a variety of blankets.
@Kidsandliz

I suspect that’s why they used the term Raschel fleece in their description. That is typically pretty thick.
@chienfou I had no clue what that was and didn’t google to find out.
@Kidsandliz
Neither did i, but my curiosity was piqued.
Oh look - more plastic-made shit!
What is a woman?
@ekyles
Ask Megan Rapinoe… she won’t answer the question! Hypocrite beyond belief… where was she when the women needed her to speak up?
Alex Morgan or GTFO

Yikes… That went sideways…
Got my NASA blanket today. It’s warm, and stupidly cozy still after I carefully cold washed and gentle dried it, but it is pretty thin so I have low expectations of longevity. It fits my back of the couch in the nerdy computer room aesthetic perfectly.
