@ETFrisco@rustyh3
We would bring back cartons of the stuff to pass out to friends. Had one package that escaped our consumption for a while until everything inside crystallized and the candies got shrunken. It was still pretty damn tasty!
@rustyh3 Yeah, I discovered them during a port visit while on active duty Navy. You CAN order them through the 'Zon (though kinda expensive), but only during the winter months… They’ll melt crossing the Atlantic!
@capnjb@kittykat9180
I literally just found (a couple of days ago) a mini stroopwaffel buried in the back of a cabinet in the kitchen… Haven’t eaten it yet but I damn sure will!
@capnjb@chienfou@kittykat9180 I still have some; they’re not inedible but you definitely have to soften them! I think they’ve lost a little flavor, but not bad for 4 years old. I don’t consider them candy, though - but maybe they are?
Of course, I’d have to go to my “homeland” of Luxembourg…I mean everyone talks about Belgian chocolate, but according to my grandparents the Lux people taught the Belgians all they knew. Belgium was just better at marketing their wares…
Being a HUGE Chocolate lover, The Swiss/German Chocolate is Awesome!
I have also had some chocolate Scandinavian countries 10+ years ago… well it only smelled a tiny bit better than it tasted. I was working at a Swiss/ German engineering company at the time here in the US. So people traveling to the Home office would always bring back small bars of the chocolate. So I fell in love with Lindt. Sadly the US version is not as good. Hey, it is still good. I have a few bags of their round truffles & bars lying around.
@mediocrebot
Aldi, being a company of a German roots, sells German chocolates pretty regularly & very reasonably. They carry multiple levels of quality…
Almost any European-made chocolate is superior to what we get sold in the U.S., unless buying from niche chocolatiers. Other sugary candy runs the gamut. I have a soft spot for sweet tarts.
@chienfou a friend went to japan and brought back some wasabi kit kats. I have yet to see them in the states and I have both Daiso and Teso Life in my area.
@chienfou@ironcheftoni@pakopako I just remembered that I have had them - I think I found them at World Market. I didn’t like them that much but my brother really did, so it worked out.
@chienfou@ironcheftoni@Kyeh@pakopako That looks tasty. I’m a fan of combining all the flavors. (Flavours for our UK members) Adding some sea salt would make that a must have Maybe add a bit of savory with it on top of some spicy jerky.
I choose Sweden bc while I hate licorice, I love gummy candy and they still have some chocolate. I’ve never had true European chocolate and I’m sure I’d fall in love with it even though I’m not a huge chocolate person. But give me some really good chocolate caramel, toffee or melt in your mouth mints and I’m in love. I absolutely love the krispy bark from drost’s chocolates. It’s like Rice Krispies cereal mixed with chocolate for a satisfying crunch. Like I said I’m not a huge chocolate fan but give me the right combination and I’m in love.
USA
@tweezak lol
@Cerridwyn Admit it. Candy Corn is the best candy ever. In the whole world. SAY IT!!!
Belgium
@heartny Agreed.
@heartny living in Belgium I’d have to say you aren’t wrong.
@heartny Dutch chocolate is pretty good.
Mars
@phendrick nice one there…
Pocket Coffee from Italy!
@ETFrisco Oh My! I had an addiction to that stuff when I traveled in Italy.

Mexico? Yes, tamarind rind covered with chile is a great candy.
Germany.
Haribo and Katjes to be specific
Love me some gummy bears and salty licorice
edit - I currently have both at my desk
The one that is in my hand…
Obviously Stroopwafels
@kittykat9180
Man, I miss those days…
@kittykat9180 I heard they make a lot of them
@chienfou @capnjb
A few years ago I ordered a box of like 200+ minis (from meh) and included them in my Halloween goodie bags.
@capnjb @kittykat9180

@chienfou @mediocrebot their praelines are great

@jitc custard tart wiya cuppa tea! Proper ace!
@sillyheathen
I believe the reference was these …
But you are right as well!
@chienfou hahaha yeah. I totally read that as sweet tarts, not SweetTarts.
@chienfou @sillyheathen I like the pastries but not the candy.
@Kyeh @sillyheathen

I’ll eat them, because… candy, but I prefer Smarties.
Laurasia
@daveinwarsh
Good one
Loompaland……Duh! Well at least for the chocolate pods.
all the flavors Kit Kats from Japan
@ironcheftoni
Those ARE pretty awe-some (ha… bite it, bot)
@chienfou @ironcheftoni Awesome way to avoid the bot!
OWLS! TOWELS! JOWLS! AWESOME!
@chienfou a friend went to japan and brought back some wasabi kit kats. I have yet to see them in the states and I have both Daiso and Teso Life in my area.
@chienfou @ironcheftoni Are they good? Are they actually hot?
@ironcheftoni @Kyeh
Haven’t had that specific flavor but my son brought some back (other flavors) with him after a tip to Japan about 3-4 years ago.
@chienfou @Kyeh actually I was too chicken to taste them!
@chienfou @ironcheftoni @Kyeh good yes, hot no.
They’re slightly… Menthol-y? There’s a refreshing not-mint effervescent taste, but it’s buried under a coats of sugar and creme.
@chienfou @ironcheftoni @pakopako I just remembered that I have had them - I think I found them at World Market. I didn’t like them that much but my brother really did, so it worked out.
@ironcheftoni @Kyeh @pakopako
Aldi sells some German chocolate that has chili peppers in it. It has just the right “punch” for the chocolate sweetness.
@chienfou @ironcheftoni @pakopako Have you tried this? Made in Colorado.
@chienfou @ironcheftoni @Kyeh @pakopako That looks tasty. I’m a fan of combining all the flavors. (Flavours for our UK members) Adding some sea salt would make that a must have
Maybe add a bit of savory with it on top of some spicy jerky.

No, but now I want to!

Norway: salted licorice
