@mycya4me more sarcasm than joke. But yeah it’s the rare day that the humidity get significant enough to feel. And it can be 70° and humid and we’re miserable. Give me the 110 and no humidity any day
@Cerridwyn This past summer we had here in the Mid Atlantic had many days of 90+ with the Feel like around 110F. I did not go out much. Even though I love to go to Pow Wows & Photograph them. I chose NOT to travel 30-45 mins one way then sit out in the Roasting Sun to take Pics. I waited to last weekend, when the temps were in the low-mid 70f & overcast to Photograph another Pow Wow!
@Luko26 one of the advantages of being an old woman is she don’t really give a rat’s ass what other people think about what you’re wearing. So very lightweight shift dress is very nice when it’s 110 outside
@pakopako If you put on 7 puffy coats, yeah. You have to use correct materials and put on layers correctly. Thin scientific underlayers, and good outer layers, like wool. Maybe a drapey cloak over top.
Winter.
I don’t have to put up with it as long (here in Central Texas). Plus I can correct for it easier and cheaper than for the nuisances of summer, which definitely overstayed its welcome. It was 90 degrees at 11 pm the other night. Hopefully that is now over for at least a few weeks.
@phendrick we need to send you to either Fargo North Dakota, or upstate Alaska for a month during December & January or maybe Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada they auto have a unique city. They call Yellowknife, it’s the next Providence east of Manitoba
@mycya4me@phendrick
I hear you. Lived in International Falls (aka Frostbite Falls) for a couple of years. Always a minimum 10-day stretch of temperatures that never made it above 0⁰F day or night in Jan. Last freeze typically late May, first typically in mid-September.
Edit…
Fun fact: 40° below zero is the same temperature in Fahrenheit and Centigrade… Been there, done that.
@chienfou@phendrick I have lived in the Mid Atlantic area for 50+ years.
No desire to Venture farther north. We still have heat pumps in this area. I my mobile home. It don’t matter what temp you set over 68F during the colder months it is unable to get it any warmer when it is down to 0F. You are luck if you get it to 68F during those days. A bit too cold for me. At that point I am in thick Flannel shirt? hoodie & pants, & slippers on my feet! If I sit down to watch TV I have a Quilt covering me.
@f00l@phendrick I thought Yellowstone was very good, even though I watched very little of it. I agree about him revitalizing the “western” genre. Made it much more complex & thought provoking.
@f00l@Kyeh That video was a lot funnier before it rained Wednesday and every day since. I don’t have a calibrated rain gauge however from emptying pots on my back deck, I think I got at least two inches each day including this afternoon. I guess clichés were made to be broken.
I believe I would like summer better. During the winter, there’s only so many pieces of clothes you can put on before you’ll be too stiff to move.
With the summer, You can always take stuff off down to the very basics like a T-shirt and a pair of walking shorts. (of course the appropriate under things) And go barefoot.
I don’t wanna go much further north than where I’m at, the mid Atlantic. Further north, you can get into during the winter like -20 centigrade.
Humidity?
I refuse to live anywhere like that. Why do you think I lived in the high desert?
I also refuse extreme cold which is why I’d never live somewhere like Yukon or North Dakota.
The South is just getting hotter and hotter. When I was 5-8 years old growing up in Atlanta, we had snow deep enough to make snowmen. Except for the great Blizzard of 1993, this hasn’t happened. When it snows in Pensacola FL and Charleston SC, something is wrong.
The seasons are all wrong. Autumn has shortening days; I want longer cool afternoons.
Spring is nice, but the heat just gets higher and higher as the days get longer and longer. So give me winter with my Seasonal Affective Disorder.
@user09001244
Europe had an extremely hot summer. Here in Albania the highs this week are 6-7° above average. The September average high was 8° above typical September average highs.
Call me crazy but I’m really tolerant of a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels. Each season has its pluses and minuses, much as each location does.
But I’m with you. I really enjoy all the seasons. Life would be rather boring if the weather was the same all the time. What would old people, don’t look at me, talk about if we couldn’t discuss the changing weather?
I much prefer Spring & Fall up here in North Dakota. Unfortunately, both seem to be getting squeezed more & more. Winter & Summer both offer their challenges up here for sure…anywhere from the -30s Fahrenheit uber-cold (60 degrees or more below freezing!) to some sticky, humidity assisted +100s almost every year!
Got to love extreme weather warnings bad enough to get both the city and the power utility sending you emails

What is this humidity of which you speak
@Cerridwyn I know you are being funny!
@Cerridwyn @mycya4me
Not everyone lives in the “swampass” zone…

You can always put on more layers of clothes when it’s cold. You can only take off so much before you could get arrested.
@Luko26 I say this to my wife all the time in humid South Carolina.
@Luko26 @user09001244
…my line as well.
@Luko26 one of the advantages of being an old woman is she don’t really give a rat’s ass what other people think about what you’re wearing. So very lightweight shift dress is very nice when it’s 110 outside
@Luko26 counter argument: you can only put on so many layers before you’re immobilized
@pakopako If you put on 7 puffy coats, yeah. You have to use correct materials and put on layers correctly. Thin scientific underlayers, and good outer layers, like wool. Maybe a drapey cloak over top.

“Water that falls from the sky”
“Well, now you’re just makin shit up”
@Kyeh @phendrick
Yellowstone is kinda full of great lines.
FWIW Taylor Sheridan attended Paschal HS in FW.
I kinda love seeing scenes set in local places I know (mostly in Landman).
I also love that he and others revitalized the mythical but compelling “western” genre.
@Kyeh @phendrick
Days around 70s. Nights 60s.
Ahhhhh.
@f00l @phendrick I thought Yellowstone was very good, even though I watched very little of it. I agree about him revitalizing the “western” genre. Made it much more complex & thought provoking.

@Kyeh @phendrick
It’s a hurricane spinoff rain
DFW gets those every few years or so it’s just part of the cycle
If there hadn’t been a hurricane in The Burnt Orange Gulf of The Texas Longhorns, then it might still be like September 15
Prob high 90s or over 100F
If I count back over the years, I remember a fair number of October days that were either over 100F or trying to get there
/giphy Bevo mad

Apologies to Aggies, I do love Aggies also.
It’s OK by me if you call that nearby body of water ”The Gulf of the Fighting Men of Kyle” or something like that.
@Kyeh @phendrick
Well that /giphy sucked.
Bad bad /giphy
This one’s better.
Winter. More holidays!
@hchavers Is there a 4th of July in the winter?
@hchavers @phendrick Usually see quite a few fireworks on Jan 1.

Warm pajamas, fluffy comforter, fuzzy socks, hot cocoa, electric throw . . . I love all the comforts of winter!
No.
I prefer spring.
Humidity?
I refuse to live anywhere like that. Why do you think I lived in the high desert?
I also refuse extreme cold which is why I’d never live somewhere like Yukon or North Dakota.
My preference is 30-50s lows and 60-70s highs.
@kittykat9180 exactly. But I actually like the '80s and 90s. As long as I have air conditioning
@Cerridwyn
You like 80s and 90s as long as you don’t have to be in it. Got it.
I hate winter, I never ends

Okay, Crazy.
@kittykat9180
Thanks for indulging me…
@chienfou @kittykat9180 Well, it IS right there in your username!
@chienfou @kittykat9180 @Kyeh I mean he is the mad dog.
