Old Mountain Pinot Noir is sourced from California, where the terrain varies greatly, from steep mountain slopes to valley vineyards. Differing elevations, soil types and sun exposure produce vines of fortitude that have withstood the elements for hundreds of years and result is wines with big, bold flavors, elegant structure and the best nature has to offer.

Discover Old Mountain, a wine that reflects the majesty of nature and time-honored craftsmanship. Each sip reveals a story of the land, inviting you to pause, savor and celebrate life’s cherished moments.
“2 bottles for just 80 bucks”. $80 is not the same as $79.99. That extra penny we’d get back could be incredibly valuable at some point in the future. It might eventually be worth enough to buy another case of these. Oh wait. That would have to be a cash purchase.
@Kidsandliz And it’s twelve for eighty bucks, which is $6.75 per bottle if the wetware coprocessor is correct. For a decent wine, that’s a bargain. Since the only consistent use for wine around here is as a cooking ingredient, and we use maybe a bottle of red per year, it’s not a fantastic find for me.
Solid everyday California Pinot Noir (approx. 3.4/5 on Vivino from limited ratings).
The 2022 Old Mountain Pinot Noir (California, value-oriented brand from Sonoma Bespoke) is a light- to medium-bodied, approachable wine with aromas of ripe plum, mocha, soft oak, and fresh red fruits (cherry, strawberry, raspberry) plus a hint of vanilla. On the palate it shows bright red cherry, warm baking spices, and subtle earthy notes, with silky tannins, balanced acidity, and a clean, persistent finish.
It’s an easy-drinking, fruit-forward style well-suited for casual sipping or pairing with roasted chicken, salmon, or mushroom dishes—good value in the roughly $10–16 range, though not a complex or age-worthy example.
I have bought multiple wine selections from Meh and Casemates with high hopes yet all of them have had flavor profiles that were unpopular with those I wished to impress.
@Michaelforman You are obviously trying to impress the wrong class of people if you serve them something from Meh. (Hope you didn’t tell them where you got those from, would diminish your value on their Christmas lists.)
@Michaelforman I have had great luck with many Meh.com wine selections, some just need time, but the Bottled Cheer every Christmas season always pleases ME, and yes, that is who I buy my wine for!
@Michaelforman As a longtime coffee/wine snob, that is on you.
From wine you can cook and make sangria with, to 3-figure bottles of juice from labels served to heads of state, and everything in between, casemates has offered.
Sometimes these wines are very particular. Peculiar. Particularly peculiar and they didn’t sell to the masses. It doesn’t mean they are bad wines, in fact, sometimes they are amazing wines but need 5 years and there is no JG Wentworth for wineries, if you catch my drift.
I have met winemakers though casemates! I have met wine snobs with 5 lifetimes of my experience. They have good products.
However, if your audience wants to listen to Taylor Swift, you shouldn’t be bringing Bach.
@Michaelforman So what flavor profile are those you are trying to impress looking for? IE I have a family member who can’t tell the difference between Yellowtail and Pedroncelli. So they get yellowtail.
“Beginner” wine as snobs call it, not because it’s inexpensive or you aren’t good enough for “good” wine, but because dry wine is so terrible, and the more expensive it is the more disgusting it tastes, you have yet to sniff enough of your own farts to temper the palette to stomach the onslaught of cork, charcoal and poison taste and look someone dead in the eye and exclaim “captivating and playful”
For me dry wine is for cooking.
I drink one step above fresh grape juice. Hate me.
@Sorry_Nothing Back in 2019, I took a tasting tour in the Marlborough region in New Zealand. I had a hard time telling the difference between the multitude of dry whites, and didn’t like any of them. And then a late-harvest Cab Sauv got served up, and I found one to my plebian tastes. Later on in that same trip, we chanced upon a small winery on the east coast of the South Island, Torlesse, where I found an exquisite tawny port. It was an accidental batch; the initial tastings had caused the barrels to get moved to the back and overlooked for a decade. Finally, someone got curious about them, and oh my was it quickly racked off and bottled.
@Sorry_Nothing@werehatrack A tawny port is a port, not a wine. That’s like mentioning the Red Sox in a football thread - I mean, yeah there’s crossover, but still…
A tawny port is typically much sweeter than most non-dessert drinks (and 90% are trash ports, to be honest). I’m guessing you’d like German dessert wines.
I So Agree ,It does though taste like an ol mountain and I aint to sure this is a pinot ,more like carlo rossi very bad tasting wine I got ripped off .OH Well.
The price per bottle works out to $6.66 and that’s somethin’! I knew I had a bad feelin’ about this and now ya’s know why. This ain’t somethin’ to mess with when it comes to sinnin and drinkin’
@phendrick@tommytoad0
In the circles I now travel, wineo. In my younger days, Red Ripple, Annie Green Springs, Bali Hi, gallon jug era; the slobbering drunk wineo would still be the lowest, while I had not advanced to either of the others…
@tommytoad0 Thank you you are correct,bad wine ,but hey they got rid of it ,wonder why california wine co are having trouble…I took one sip ,and it werent good.
There is quite a bit of difference between a wineo, a wineaux and an oenophile.
Which one is the hardest for others to tolerate?
I guess it partially depends on whether you’re one of the above or not. I think I find the “wineaux” group to be least trying. For one thing, they seem happy to share but unoffended by a decline, in my experience.
@cfg83@outdoorslife
It’s actually even better than that since a “standard” glass of wine it’s only 150 ml (not 187)… So, $1.33 a glass.
Note: not sure where the Sutter Home reference came from.
BUYER BEWARE!! This merchant (MEH) has a policy that encourages profit over retaining customers. I tried using a valid coupon code for free shipping and the system would not recognize it. I contacted them to fix it and they would not honor the coupon. THIS IS A BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE. FIND YOUR DEAL ELSE WHERE. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!
@user03798272
At the risk of being that guy, did the coupon come from meh/mediocre/stores itself? If so, you’re correct that’s pretty shitty. If it came from another website… well, caveat emptor
@user03798272 do you have an adblocker installed? Ad blockers can disrupt attribution and cause the code you saw to not work. You have to be referred directly from the website that is permitted to promote that code.
Just Got This wonderfully bad pinot if that is what it is,I dont think so,took one sip and was very sorry for drinkin an ol mountain tainted mold poison ,hey ! and I am being nice,but at least they got rid of it and made a profit…not good at even $3 a bottle.
@joefer1 It sounds like I’m going to be glad I don’t buy much wine for purposes other than cooking, and few that I haven’t had a chance to taste first. This would always have been an automatic pass for me unless I was shopping for gift bottles, and I’m guessing that I might not have won friends and influenced people with this particular bunch.

Now you are getting down to price/bottle a wino can afford!

Correction; six-and-about-two-thirds-bucks per bottle. $6.6665833… to be precise.
@werehatrack Wait what? I have to chop a penny into some ridiculously precise piece? Good thing I don’t drink.

Talk about a crap shoot.
hopefully it’s at least a decent bottle to cook with.
Thou shalt not cook with the undrinkable
I will say it is tempting for some reason

@rjquillin - skip the rush shipping, it’ll be fine.

Like Mediocrebot with the word awes0me, you do realize this summons me, right?

/showme Run-D.M.C. wearing their signature adidas while drinking wine.
@Michaelforman Here’s the image you requested for “Run-D.M.C. wearing their signature adidas while drinking wine.”
@mediocrebot @Michaelforman Hmmm, they are drinking a Gamay rather than a Pinot Noir; although both are Burgundy, so I guess it sort of counts.
Very unfortunately . . .
Dry wine…

@Sorry_Nothing Ok.
@Sorry_Nothing Are you asking for the RS # of this wine? Did you have a stroke?
@Sorry_Nothing Back in 2019, I took a tasting tour in the Marlborough region in New Zealand. I had a hard time telling the difference between the multitude of dry whites, and didn’t like any of them. A dream come true for soccer moms everywhere, when that cheap white wine ain’t gonna make little Billy and his horde tolerable at the weekend tourney.
“Flavors of bright red cherry and warm spice segue to a persistent finish that lingers long after the sun fades to nightfall.”
I don’t know much about wine. Is that a polite euphemism for saying it has a really bad aftertaste?
@tommytoad0
this would actually be a complement
@rjquillin Ok. Never will understand wine drinkers, always sipping their high class wines sitting out behind the grocery store by the dumpsters…
@tommytoad0 I don’t know, but if you have your Segway out until nightfall you better have some taillights on for safety.
@tommytoad0
There is quite a bit of difference between a wineo, a wineaux and an oenophile.
@tommytoad0 I’ve read “Nightfall”. A wine that can outlast the destruction of civilization might be a good thing to have around.
@rjquillin @tommytoad0
Which one is the hardest for others to tolerate?
@phendrick @tommytoad0
In the circles I now travel, wineo. In my younger days, Red Ripple, Annie Green Springs, Bali Hi, gallon jug era; the slobbering drunk wineo would still be the lowest, while I had not advanced to either of the others…
@phendrick @rjquillin @tommytoad0 the hardest to tolerate is probably @Sorry_Nothing with the rant above insulting all wine drinkers.
@tommytoad0 Thank you you are correct,bad wine ,but hey they got rid of it ,wonder why california wine co are having trouble…I took one sip ,and it werent good.

I looked at the information page but couldn’t find anything regarding if this wine is actually a margarita or if I can make margaritas from it?
@locogato88 Make Sangria out of it
Soooo … 12*750 = 9000 mL
9000 mL / 187 mL/glass = 48.13 glasses of wine
$80 / 48.13 = $1.66 a glass.
@cfg83 That is almost disgustingly cheap!
@cfg83 @outdoorslife
It’s actually even better than that since a “standard” glass of wine it’s only 150 ml (not 187)… So, $1.33 a glass.
Note: not sure where the Sutter Home reference came from.
@chienfou @outdoorslife
I looked at a Sutter Home 4-pack-plastic bottle in CVS.
@cfg83
Okay that makes more sense. Just seemed like a random/out of the blue kind of number.
Thanks

Received the wine today, it is indeed mostly just ok. But I have not received my Casemates coupon code either
