I have this on my desk at work and only use the phone charging but magnet secures and works well. It has a slight suction on the bottom that keeps it upright but I can slide it towards me, change music or text and slide back without removing from charging. Well weighted and a nice design.
So when I’ve tried wireless charging it makes my phone or tablet feel like it’s turning into a nuclear reactor.
But there’s also times the device doesn’t charge at all because it’s not seated absolutely perfectly.
Am I wrong to feel wireless charging is kinda bogus? I plug in just as quickly. And the performance is better. And I can use the device while plugged in. Am I missing something with wireless?
@FightingMongoos It’s convenient? But no really, the tradeoffs are not worth the squeeze. That extra heat generated? It’s all degrading your battery. That’s also wasted electricity; wireless is more inefficient than plugging in
@FightingMongoos@thechilipepper0 I’ve never had a battery lose enough charge from wireless charging to the point of needing to upgrade, but I have had many charging ports fail. In fact, modern batteries and the chips that control charging are pretty smart, and modern phones are much better at heat management than you give them credit for (partly to keep up with the increasing capabilities of wireless charging). But the failure rate of charging ports is high enough that I always put my phone on a wireless charger every night, and only use a cord if I need a fast top-off.
If you are worried about your battery, most phones have a battery protect feature, just use that. Regularly charging to 100% is not good for the battery whether you do it wirelessly or by cable.
@FightingMongoos@jonpeake@thechilipepper0@uscpsycho personally, I don’t like fumbling for the cord in the dark and/or in my car, and I’ve spent far more on cables than batteries over the years. BUT it really seems like all the gains and losses are marginal, and we can each do what we prefer without fear of being “wrong”
@FightingMongoos These chargers have the magnets in them to keep your phone aligned with the coil so it doesn’t slide off and fail to charge. If you are going to use wireless charging regularly it is worth it to get a phone case with the magnets.
Bought these the first time around and they’ve been fantastic. Aukey is the only brand I’ve found that passthrough charges my Samsung without having to take off my ohsnap grip. Only downside to this deal is the lack of charging brick, but those can be found decently cheap. These are definitely worth the $12.50 each.
I’m another member of the No Thanks, It Makes My Phone Get Too Hot Club. I’ve tried several charging pads, and the results seem identical. I was handed an induction-capable power bank as well, and I use it with a cable when I use it at all.
I got this last time and they have been excellent. One thing the specs don’t mention is the bottom of the charger is slightly like a suction cup and will gently resist being moved, very handy when the magnet is gripping the phone tightly.
I’ve been happy with the one I purchased a while back. No overheating, and it’s convenient for travel when I want to keep earbuds charged. Pop everything on at night and I’m good to go in the morning. Picking up this set for my nightstand and office.

@FightingMongoos @jonpeake @thechilipepper0 Exactly. I have a phone right now that I can only charge wirelessly because the USB port failed.

Different take on a
foldable Charger?
@phendrick That’s not just folded, it’s origamied.
@phendrick @werehatrack
Possibly happened while fumbling around with the phone. Maybe trying to connect it to the charger in the Charger?
@BioBill
Sadly, all too true…

As an Apple Watch user, I want a charger that will charge my watch as well.

@chienfou @user09001244 I do really want that too.
