Don’t buy these. I was recharging my phone from when I bought these the last time and it started making a hissing noise. That’s a sign that the internal battery has been compromised. Like burst into flames risk right there.
@alose@cfg83 A lot of the inductive chargers run suspiciously warm, in my experience. That’s much of why I use a cable. No inductive coupling losses, less energy lost as heat.

@TimW@un4gvn1 My first phone was really a bag phone! Converted car phone in a canvas bag with shoulder strap. A couple of pounds. It had a 12V NiCd battery or could plug in to car power or AC charger. Not sure of amp-hour capacity. It had a stubby rubber antenna but you could also wire it with cable to the car cell phone antennae that were trendy at the time. I remember people would buy fake “wiggly” stick-on ones just to look pretend-cool.
It was surprisingly good! The analog bands it supported are long gone.
I used it a lot but only a few minutes at a time. Cost was only $25/month but had to pay per-minute. We still had work pagers but if something important came in I could park (safely!) and return the call. Also was fun taking it to the beach and telling people I was calling them from the beach.
@pmarin@un4gvn1 our first cell phone was a bag phone, too. Bought it when my wife was doing externships during her last year of med school. She had to spend a month at a time at different hospitals spending a lot of time driving so it was for emergency use. I do remember the per minute cost for calls was crazy (especially on our budget)!
Bought a pair last time these were up, they’ve served me well enough at work since my phone doesn’t quite last a full shift if I’m dinking about on it. Useful enough that I’ll buy another pair, since that means I don’t have to be concerned if I forget to recharge another one at the end of the workday.
@user48408175 It’s 11mm at its thickest and 10mm at its thinnest. This is my favorite power bank that I’ve ever gotten from meh and my favorite power bank ever, in fact.
I really love the form factor. It fits in my pocket really nice.
When you use it on an iPhone, the iPhone will tell you how much power is left in the power bank too. I love that feature.

Don’t count on it
@heartny
Signs point to yes
/8ball Do I need more powerbanks?
@heartny Yeah, I already have 5 of these in different sizes at this point. I think that at least 2 of them came from the Meh mystery bags.

@alose I still have one unopened one. First one has run hot, so it’s a backup, not a primary.

@mediocrebot @Michaelforman I listened to RUN D.M.C. the last time and got a set. They run hot with the mag charger, so I mostly use them over cable.
If these would actually charge my phone I’d be hella impressed.
The kicker is, my phone has a 21200mAh battery, so charging the power bank off the phone is probably more likely.
@un4gvn1 that’s a lot of Amp-hours!
Maybe your phone can charge my car?
@pmarin Depending on the car, maybe so.
@un4gvn1 that’s huge! Did you build it yourself?
@un4gvn1 wotinell kind of phone has a 21Ah battery?
@un4gvn1 is it a bag phone??? What phone has a battery that large?

I am intensely amused by the quoted review in the blurb.

@UpsidedownPeas

Interesting username.
I like it!
@Lynnerizer The people try to tell me "Peas? Peas cant BE upside down! Its not possible… It’s not easy convincing the populace, but its honest work.
@UpsidedownPeas
The public – we can be such a tough crowd, can’t we…?!? AND, I suppose it depends on which type of peas we’re talking about! 🫛🫛🫛 Lol
@Lynnerizer

Not a bad deal, but I can count on one hand how many times I needed to charge mid-day, and that’s using a 5 year old pixel 6.
Naah. I’m set for now.

Dammit. Did it again.

@Pufferfishy aw, rats.
@Pufferfishy
Me too! Back to 1 day streak.
Pass, these look like garbage
Can I charge the powerbank using a wireless charger?
@Not_Bot_Not
There are some you actually can.
Probably not this one…
@Not_Bot_Not there have been some discussions here of chaining power devices to generate infinite power. But far more likely to generate fires!
@pmarin infinite fires?
