Feels like National Tree Company is just ditching all their most hideous junk on meh, and in turn us. It’s mind boggling how awful most of this stuff has been today. Thoughts?
Being a shopaholic, I think the suggested retail prices shown are insane and can’t believe anyone would pay that much, but there probably is someone out there who will. I also think I can get better markdown prices at HomeGoods, At Home and the like. I’ve gotten nicer looking wreaths for less at Burlington. I’m kind of disappointed in this Meh-rathon, more than usual.
@heartny I think the tariffs had something to do with the prices. I’d guess (so meh correct me if I’m am wrong) that then retailers cancelled orders as they thought the stuff would be too expensive for some/many of their customers, thus the company had a ton of excess inventory. So meh holds them up with a candy cane gun to get the stuff comes to their rescue and buys a ton of it…
@Kidsandliz Mehbe. Does the Meh family still have a brick and mortar store where they can unload this stuff? I don’t think it will be very cost effective to send in IRks.
@heartny Well thinking about it that is likely why the prices are so high too on meh - postage is way higher than what they charge us since, for example, christmas trees are both big and heavy.
@Kidsandliz Yeah, I’m sure it costs a boatload to ship the big stuff. I wonder if there is any regret offering this stuff here? Doesn’t look like the big ticket items sold well.
@heartny@Kidsandliz@rcwbbb Oh! That’s interesting. I hadn’t heard about that.
I wonder if that’s the same location as where the Meh one was for a minute?
@heartny@Kidsandliz@Kyeh Don’t know of that location but a yelp review showed the MorningSave store closed in 2023. I was in Plano over Thanksgiving 2024 and stumbled across the store in this location. Yelp listing does not list store hours so hours so bricks and mortar may no longer exist.
@heartny@Kidsandliz@rcwbbb Okay, that must be the one I was thinking of; I just forgot & thought it was a Meh outlet. A comment there confirms that it closed.
@heartny@Kidsandliz@Kyeh The comments were dated 2023. I was at the Preston location in 2024. So maybe they were in another location prior. I sent a “contact us” on their website and awaiting a reply.
@heartny@Kidsandliz@Kyeh@narfcake Now I’m really confused. I think the closure should have read July 2023 since this article is dated August 2023.
The store said MorningSave on the outside but I guess they had to pick a name and meh probably wasn’t going to draw in a lot of customers.
Having said that, they might have had a change of heart after the July 2023 closing because I was at their Plano store during Thanksgiving 2024 and have the receipt to prove it. In addition, I asked meh and they confirmed this morning that this store is open.
@heartny@Kidsandliz@narfcake@rcwbbb Huh! They haven’t said much about it. What did you think of it? I think a few people went to the other one & gave their opinions (mostly positive, as I recall.)
@heartny@Kidsandliz@Kyeh@narfcake It’s a good size warehouse with everything laid out on tables. Think Costco and how they lay out their clothing. Barebones. Think Ollie’s but better organized with sign describing what you’re seeing and clearly marked prices. I recognize a lot of things from meh and SideDeal’s website and prices looked similar between outlet store and website.
If I was living in the Dallas area, this would definitely be one of my regular stops.
@Kyeh
I agree, being able to physically have them in your hand before you pull the trigger would be a plus. Not gonna make that drive though.
For a while we had a Black Friday store in Montgomery. Same kind of thing - bins of items - but these were loose and sometimes not in packages. I think they were bulk buying pallets of Amazon / Walmart / Temu returns. Prices started at a fixed $5(?). Price then went down each day until Thursday (25¢?). Then they would clear everything and reset for Friday at $5/ea again.
Found a few interesting things at incredibly good prices. Mostly items that people had no idea what they were (like certain electronics). Unfortunately this is around early COVID and it didn’t survive.
@chienfou One Place I used to love was Cost Plus in San Francisco - lots of imported things you couldn’t easily find back then at great prices. Eventually they morphed into World Market, which has swankier stuff and is way more expensive.
I can’t think of a less attractive line of products that wasn’t automotive. (And boy howdy have there been some fugly-ass cars, trucks, and fuck-no-I-don’t-care-what-they-call-it things.)
I thought they were going to announce that stores.com has acquired national tree company.
There are certainly some things that aren’t to my taste, but maybe they are to someone’s.
@djslack Perhaps the lackluster performance of the line will preclude that possibility.

@heartny @Kidsandliz They have an outlet store under the name MorningSave.

@heartny @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @rcwbbb It was their only location and according to the local papers, they closed July 14, 2024.

@chienfou Sounds fun, but probably not great for someone who has too much stuff, like me …
@Kyeh
It was kind of cool. They had one off oddball foods as well as some incredible deals on things occasionally

They ain’t ugly, just totally FUGLY!!
I can’t think of a less attractive line of products that wasn’t automotive. (And boy howdy have there been some fugly-ass cars, trucks, and fuck-no-I-don’t-care-what-they-call-it things.)
@werehatrack
I don’t know, I’ve seen some pretty butt ugly haute couture lines…
@chienfou Okay, yeah, the what-are-they-smoking “fashion” runway stuff is reliably off the fugly charts.
@chienfou @werehatrack OMG, they just get worse & worse.
This was the meh-rathon that should have had the “no gimicks” IRK.
@walarney
Not if you are meh. and trying to unload this stuff
Looks like Woot! got in on the National Tree Company merchandise liquidation too:

@heartny Oh, that’s funny! I think their prices are higher than Meh’s were?
