In praise of counting the wins . . .
2I spend a lot of time on YouTube, and I’ve subscribed to several and unsubscribed from several but fewer channels about movies and media.
I’m posting from this channel, CinemaWins, which I discovered recently, because I’m in love with the premise, and I think there’s too little of it in the world. They simply go through each film/series tallying the wins. I’m hoping the comments might head in that direction as well. Fwiw, I kinda don’t give a fuck what everyone hates about whatever. Too many channels and too many people spend too much time on that, imo, and the sad majority of them hit the hollow tone of someone’s or someones’ personal and too-often parochial and philistine peeves, or just a shit ton of cliches and empty, expected, low-grade rhetoric.
I looked to see if they had a video for Madame Web (near-universally panned), hoping to bypass pointless quibbling and just to indulge a ridiculous surplus of nominally based praise.
To be clear, I’m all about examining things with a critical eye. I just wish it were more common to also appreciate things, even–it seems fitting to say–the mixed and the mediocre. I’m also in favor of periodic diatribes and rants, but, frankly, that working well requires a delicate balance that I haven’t seen much of for a while.

I find that I really like content where the creators are just enthralled with whatever it is they’re into. It’s nice to appreciate people appreciating things.
20+ years ago I got satellite radio and listened to Opie and Anthony all the time. After a while I found that that kind of humor turned me into a bit of an asshole. I much prefer trying to find the positive now.
I think the world is coming around, too. It used to be the thing to hate on stuff but now there’s maybe too much hate in the world so it’s becoming cooler to love things. Maybe the world can be a better place for it.

We can hope so…
