Run For….Penny….Run
6Well I swore I wouldn’t do this. I abhor asking people for help because I’m stubborn. I was taught to work hard so asking for charity always feels odd, even when it’s for a really good cause. Anyway. My youngest is a runner. She’s currently in soccer and cross country. Her middle school is doing their one and only fundraiser currently which is a fun run happening tomorrow. She’s super close to her second goals, as she passed her first goal faster than she expected. She’s attempting to reach 1k, she’s at 945, and also wants to win the award for the student with donations for the most states. So I’m reaching out to my Mehtizen family. The lowest donation is $10 so I understand if it’s a big ask. You won’t get an irk but you will get a charitable tax receipt, a handpainted thank you card and the gratitude of a rad 11 year old. No worries if it’s not an option. Thank you to the few I have reached out to privately. Your cards are going in the post Friday.

A few cards that we did together.

California is in the channel
@Cerridwyn 🫶🫶🫶 she would like to know if you have a request for theme on your card.
@sillyheathen I’m good
Just put her over the 1K mark and added a state.
I used to love to run, so I say to Penny - RUN! Don’t stop running as you get older, but also bike, hike, swim, kayak, do all the fun things outside!!
@caramelarrow thank you so stinking much. She’s so stoked to run today. She has her color run and then we leave for a cross country meet immediately after the fun run.
BTDT… Congrats on hitting your goal. Hope you make the state title as well.
@chienfou We find out today at the fun run. I think she should make it but there’s no telling. It’s been pretty awesome watching her grow in confidence. She’s a pretty rad human. I’d say little but she’s now talller than me.i still can’t believe im going to be the short one at 5’7.

POKER! JOKER! NOT MEDIOCRE! AWESOME!
@sillyheathen
Fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree.
FWIW the link says the donations are accepted until the 13th…
Are you accepting Meh/stores.com coupons?
@phendrick

I mean they might have an alternative payment method.
Hope the run went well…
Pics?
@chienfou I don’t have any photos from the fun run. They made it really difficult for parents to attend which is kind of annoying. You have to have volunteer status which requires a background check. I was already registered but no one else in our family was so I was related to spraying kids with clouds of color instead of photographing. I know a few other people got photos but I’m waiting for those. She placed fourth in her group for her meet after. The girl that finished 1st was an entire minute n front of the pack. But then I overheard her dad talk about how he was a rugby player for the NRL which made all the sense in the world.
I’ll post some pics in the next few days!
@sillyheathen
Glad run went well. Bummer that they were not more family/support friendly as far as access.
Look forward to the pics…
@chienfou @sillyheathen
Congrats to your local hero for running.
@sillyheathen Yay!

Did she win for most states?
@kittykat9180 She finds out today or tomorrow. I’m pretty sure she’s in the lead though based on deduction.
Was this a color run like with the pigments tossed on the runners?
@chienfou sadly no. I’m waiting for a few parents that were there to get me photos. I will post as soon as they do though.
@sillyheathen
I wondered since it was listed as a “color run” on the fundraiser page. Bummer. Seems like that would be a lot of fun…
Edit… Wait, just re-read one of your comments above and I thought you were supposed to be launching pigment? I’m confused?!?
Just doing a drive by donation to put Florida on the map. Also, lunch is almost ready if anyone is hungry.
I miss you guys and I promise to be back later.
@yakkoTDI
Missing you more!
@sillyheathen @yakkoTDI
Welcome “home”…
@chienfou @sillyheathen I have missed you guys a lot this year. I am trying to ease my way back into this.
@sillyheathen I found a YouTube channel with some good PWEI concerts and thought about you.
Well you guys seriously more than helped her attain her goals. They actually gave her a bonus award for bringing in the highest amount of donations for the school. She earned double what the second highest kiddos brought in. And she did in fact bring in the most donations from around the country and world. She is so stinking excited. She plans on trying to be in the top 3 girls next week. She was 6th I think this week. It’s a pretty high bar. The girls that finished in the top two their 2k this week were at 6m25s and 6m45s. She has been running injured but finished at 10m45. I’m just hoping she does her best. That’s all I can ask for. And I can’t thank yall enough for the support. It means more to her than you will ever know. And she said that she’s making cards for the people that didn’t want one and she’ll email you a photo so you don’t have to provide a physical address if you don’t want to.

that’s my kid.
@sillyheathen Sorry I just saw this! I could have added one more state…
I’m glad she didn’t need it.
@brainmist no worries at all. She got a new in her bonnet for this fundraiser and she’s been loving the running so all the things aligned.
@sillyheathen hurrrrrrrrrayyyyyyyyyy!!
To the progeny:

Congratulations on attainihg (and exceeding) your goals. You worked hard and deserve the accolades.
To the parents:
I’ve addressed the concept of “good parenting” in this forum before. I think that I have seen multiple examples of people whose kids have been successes, not only because they have natural, God-given talent, but also because their parents give them the tools to translate that into positive results. You both have the right to be proud, both of her results, and the outcome of your labors.
PS don’t let her “push through the pain” to the point where she creates an injury that gives her more trouble down the road. I know she wants to be out there and give it all she’s got, but sometimes the way to do that is to back off and let your body recover…
TL:DR y’all ALL done good!
@chienfou yeah. I watched a parent push her kid into a full blown asthma attack with her inhaler waiting a the finish line because she wanted her to PR. Sorry. I’m all about encouraging them but I refuse to push them like that. That sets up a whole host of issues for later in life.
We’ve just been telling her to listen to her body. To try and if it gets too painful or uncomfortable, to slow or stop. She would’ve been under ten in her last race but she slowed to a jog/walk near the end but then sprinted up the hill to finish. I’ve just been proud of her for carrying on and not quitting.
@sillyheathen
Good life skill to learn. There’s a difference between “quitting because it’s hard” and quitting because it’s unwise.
@chienfou it’s something we talk about all the time. I’m all about form and technique. I used to power lift until I was pushed too far by a trainer. He thought I was trying to give up, he should’ve known me better than that, but it was intense pain. I kept pushing because that’s what was being asking and I tore my left rotator. It’s good to push boundaries but you also have to accept that boundaries exist for a reason. Pushing to injury is no bueno.

Maybe it’ll work…
